Jacobs Aviation Senior Project Manager in Charlotte, North Carolina
What if you could join one of the industry’s leading providers of comprehensive aviation services? Be a part of our growth and help us reinvent tomorrow. Drawing on more than 50 years of airport experience, we support our clients at every phase of project development - from planning through design and construction to facilities management. Our engineers, architects, and planners are experts at delivering projects in highly complex and dynamic operating environments. Backed by decades of solid experience on large and small airport projects, our Jacobs aviation team has served county, municipal, regional, and international airports; air carriers; and military installations.
Our Aviation Team is seeking an experienced Aviation Senior Project Manager with strong aviation engineering and design experience to support our growing aviation practice in the Southeast Region of the U.S. In this key role, we’ll look to you to lead civil/structural engineering projects, provide excellent client service, manage quality, and perform in a team environment. With a focus on major airports in the Carolinas, projects will include, but are not limited to, airfield improvements, land/site development, and other transportation tasks.
When you join us, you’ll manage and lead the ongoing progress of projects, including the coordination of the project with the client, subconsultants, and other outside agencies as needed. We’ll ask you to conceptualize the initial civil design approach for major phases of land/site development, airfield improvements, and related projects, and have overall responsibility for the civil engineering work.
You will utilize your expertise to plan and conduct work requiring evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Additionally, you’ll use advanced techniques to modify and extend civil engineering theories, precepts, and practices.
Our Aviation Senior Project Manager will resolve a variety of complex problems, (i.e., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements) and develop resilient solutions. Local experience with North Carolina airports is essential, and an interest or experience in developing relationships with NC airports to expand Jacobs' business and reach within the NC airport communities is highly valued.
As part of our team, you will also be entrusted with the following responsibilities:
Building client business opportunities and supporting project proposal teams through proposal development.
Supervising design tasks and driving the ongoing progress of a project, including coordination with the client, city, state, and county officials, as well as other outside agencies as needed.
Leading, coordinating, and reviewing the work of less experienced engineers and technical support personnel assigned to the project.
Participating in contract bidding and administration; observing project actions on-site.
Providing mentorship to more junior staff.
Scope and develop level of effort for new projects
This is a hybrid role. Ideally, you will work from a local Jacobs or client office on average 2 days per week. Travel for this role is less than 10% per year. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a designer for aviation projects
Previous project management experience within a consulting environment
Established local client experience in North Carolina
Experience working with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam and CAE tools and work products
Experience with the development of reports, plans and specifications using FAA, UFC, or ICAO guidance
Ideally, you’ll also have:
Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Airfield civil engineering design experience
