General Electric Lead Engineer 1 - Advanced Gearing Design & Process in Charleston, West Virginia

Role Summary:

The Advanced Lead Engineer - Gearing Design & Process demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals/programs/processes for gearing design and advanced manufacturing process development. Has the experience or expertise to solve problems. Able to develop and execute objectives for self and others. This role has the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

In addition, you will:

  • Be responsible for design, analysis and validation of internal and external spur and spline gearing, related advanced manufacturing process and other items as assigned.

  • Review essential design requirements, interfaces with supply chain and quality to identify suitable processes, initial programming parameters, and validation plans.

  • Coordinate with lead systems engineers, other component engineers, service, product definition, supply chain, quality and manufacturing as needed to document and communicate requirements.

  • Lead failure analysis and issue resolution within the assigned gearing components.

  • Interface with Services, Customers, Product Definition and Technical Publications personnel to ensure construction of high quality service manuals.

  • Interface with internal and external supplier manufacturing process engineers, quality engineers, documenting remarkable findings according to business needs.

  • Lead the validation and component testing efforts from conception to execution of tests and disposition of material.

  • Assist lead systems engineer with inputs for any customer field testing required to verify and validate design.

  • Participate in manufacturing process reviews, vendor PPAPs, Manufacturing PPAPs, pilot builds, first article inspection, failure analysis.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in an engineering, physics, or computer science discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in gear design within the industry, i.e. Oil & Gas, Locomotive, Marine, Mining, Wind Energy, On- or Off-Road Vehicle Transmission Designers / Suppliers.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s of Science degree in mechanical, aerospace or structural engineering.

  • Demonstrated experience operating advanced gear design software, programming gear grinding equipment, creating heat treatment recipes, setting up and interpreting results from gear measurement machines, validating design, and related skills.

  • Active participation within an organization which is an AGMA member.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques such as Additive Manufacturing.
