Koniag Management Solutions, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Human-Centered Design Specialist to support a customer engagement group for our government customer. As part of this team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience and help drive the adoption of cloud services for our government customers.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Champion the human-centered design strategy and the customer perspective in in alignment with the program's mission, promoting a user-centric approach across our delivery teams

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams--including developers, engineers, product managers, and government stakeholders--to integrate human-centered design principles into customer engagement strategies within Department of State

  • Help ensure alignment between design vision and technical feasibility

  • Conduct user research to gain insights into customer behaviors, needs, and pain points through interviews, surveys, and usability testing

  • Advocate for inclusive design principles and ensure services are accessible to those with diverse abilities and needs

  • Develop detailed customer personas, journey maps, and service blueprints to guide design and engagement efforts

  • Design and prototype innovative solutions that enhance the customer experience, ensuring they are user-friendly and aligned with business objections for each customer

  • Facilitate workshops to brainstorm and ideate new concepts with stakeholders

  • Continuously iterate on designs based on customer feedback

  • Monitor industry trends and advancements in human-centered design, translating research findings into actionable design recommendations

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience supporting Department of State contracts is strongly preferred

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience leading human-centered design efforts, preferably in large-scale cloud development or government projects

  • BA/BS degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, User Experience, or a related field. Masters preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong proficiency with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, etc.

  • Expertise in user research techniques, usability testing, and user-centered design methodologies

  • Demonstrated ability to relate process and data to drive insightful actions

  • A strong portfolio showcasing successful design projects

  • Strong familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive design practices

  • Ability to formulate and present findings to Executive/Senior management and influence at multiple levels in the organization

  • Skills and experience in presenting analytical results both verbally and in writing, especially the ability to convey design concepts and principles to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Working knowledge of information technologies including cloud-based platforms, service delivery models, and government processes preferred

  • Ability to work independently with shifting priorities

  • A current DoD SECRET clearance required to be considered

Working Environment & Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.

The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
