Cedar Falls Utilities Part-Time Meter Reader in Cedar Falls, Iowa

Cedar Falls Utilities is currently recruiting for aPart-Time Meter Readerto join our Information Systems department. This position r eads and enters electric, gas, water, and communications meter readings on a micro-processing unit for billing purposes.

The Part-Time Meter Reader works under general supervision of the Information Systems Manager.

Compensation & Benefits
CFU offers on-the-job training and will enroll employees into a 3-step apprenticeship program, consisting of classroom and field training.
Non-commission, straight hourly based pay structure.
Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. Full position rate is$35.05/hour once a candidate can successfully perform the essential job functions.
Variable work schedule occurs between 7:30am - 4:00pm.
Responsibilities
Reads utility meter routes as assigned and verifies that the reading is both logical and accurate.
Reports any account that appears to have changed such that it would affect the customer’s rate schedule.
Verifies that meter number and any multiplier listed on the meter is also listed in the route data.
Answers routine customer questions and refers the customer to proper staff for any questions not easily answered.
Observes and reports any evidence of meter tampering or other metering and customer concerns to the Manager.
Verifies the accuracy of remote reading devices as scheduled by the Manager.
Assists in obtaining meter readings for check reads and finals, and the posting of collection notices as assigned.
Notifies appropriate personnel of any hazardous and dangerous situations affecting customer or employee safety and/or utility equipment.
Performs miscellaneous assignments when the CFU customer meter reading requirements have been satisfied.
Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, co-workers and management.
Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Certifications/Licensures:
Must have and maintain a valid Iowa driver's license to perform essential job functions and meet CFU insurability guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:Cedar Falls street locations.
Ability to:O perate a micro-processing unit for the purpose of reading meters; must be able to walk meter reading routes and to obtain customer meter readings; ability to project a friendly, helpful attitude to all customers; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions:
The physical demands described here are characteristic of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must occasionally lift at least 25 pounds, be alert to ergonomic hazards and possess the capability to climb ladders and/or stairs. The employee must also be capable of working in conditions with rough terrain, awkward/difficult positions and walking long distances in inclement weather. This job requires a high activity level. Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Pre-employment drug screen and physical is required.
