Amazon Event Support Engineer, Event Productions in Cape Town, South Africa

This is an exciting opportunity to work for Amazon, supporting dynamic, high impact events taking place in a large production venue in the new Cape Town campus. The candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills, be customer obsessed, and be energetically driven to support our customers and the team.

The successful event engineer candidate will serve as production support for the on campus venue and be able to design, program and operate live events ranging from conference style meetings and special events. The successful candidate will ideally have experience as a live production engineer demonstrating systems knowledge, interpersonal skills, and the ability to keep calm, focused and confident in a production environment.

Key job responsibilities

• Setup, configure, operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and de-rig event/AV equipment.

• Ability to operate in role autonomously, lead, train and oversee vendor engineer personnel.

• Report any problems that arise with complex equipment, make repairs as able.

• System and inventory management, maintain data/records of equipment use.

• Develop, document and maintain event/AV standards and drive process improvements.

• Raise the bar for our customers by searching out opportunities to help others improve skillsets and processes.

A day in the life

An Event Support Engineer's role is to operate production equipment during live events in Amazon's on campus large production venue. The Event Support Engineer will work alongside Producers, peers and customers to deliver high quality event experiences. This work will encompass all stages of the event process including pre-production planning, set, delivery, and de-rig/restore of event spaces.

Pre-event:

• Communicate with Event producer to determine technical needs.

• Setup, configuration, and thorough testing of equipment ahead of event.

Event delivery:

• Operation of event/AV equipment (audio, video, lighting)

• Optimizing systems for the best quality attainable.

• Adaptable to customer needs and changes.

Post-event:

• Assist with de-rig of event space(s), ensuring correct equipment handling and storage.

• Participate in post-event feedback discussions/surveys.

About the team

The Event Production team provides high quality support to internal Amazon customers. The team consists of engineers and system engineers who work daily with the installed production equipment, helping to plan and execute each event within the space. The Event Production team culture is built around providing quality customer support for each event, and works to customize each event to provide the maximum results for each customer.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Cape Town, ZAF

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in events production.

  • 3+ years of experience with video and audio operation, and troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with Ross video processors, Cisco VC equipment, Yamaha professional mixing consoles.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to adjust work schedule to business needs.

  • Positive minded with a ‘can do’ attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 – 4 year degree in A/V, technical theater or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Deep understanding of live audio/video mixing principles, troubleshooting and problem solving for relevant systems and equipment.

  • Background in event AV, including audio, video, lighting and staging systems.

  • Knowledge of MS Office suite.
