Nuclear Fuel Services Field Engineering Section Manager in Cambridge, Ontario

We are looking for a Field Engineering Section Manager for our Cambridge, Ontario operations.

JOB PURPOSE

The Field Engineering Section Manager role is pivotal in bolstering the operational efficiency and technical prowess of Field Services Construction and Major Projects. It entails providing comprehensive support to Field Engineers, ensuring seamless execution of proposals, and maintaining stringent quality standards throughout project lifecycles.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Field Engineering Support:
  • Collaborate closely with Field Engineers to deliver precise proposal estimates for construction projects.

  • Furnish technical expertise to enhance the quality and viability of proposals.

  1. Accountability for Project Excellence:
  • Uphold accountability for the impeccable quality and flawless technical execution of Field Services Construction and Major Projects.

  • Demonstrate commitment by attending all regular project meetings and maintaining technical oversight throughout project phases.

  1. Departmental Management:
  • Oversee the comprehensive training of engineers and technicians in ASME, CSA, QA standards, and other technical competencies.

  • Manage construction-specific qualifications, such as Modification Team Leads, to ensure optimal project performance.

  • Strategize and administer departmental headcount allocations and yearly budgets.

  • Conduct performance reviews and devise individualized development plans to nurture talent within the team.

  1. Procedural Compliance and Maintenance:
  • Ensure adherence to Field Services Procedures, including the creation and maintenance of construction procedures and policies.

  • Uphold compliance with Nuclear Services Operating Procedures and Engineering, Procurement, Construction protocols.

  1. Support and Oversight:
  • Provide invaluable support to Field Services Construction and Major Projects by furnishing proposal estimates and execution strategies.

  • Exercise diligent oversight, observation, and coaching during both training and project execution phases.

  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure operational efficacy and address any emerging challenges promptly.

  1. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
  • Guarantee strict adherence to all requirements outlined in the Quality Program.

  • Ensure seamless compliance with station Engineering Change Control (ECC) procedures.

  • Swiftly address issues and implement corrective actions to maintain project integrity and regulatory compliance.

    KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Possess a Bachelor's degree in Applied Science in Engineering, providing a solid foundation in engineering principles and practices.

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in the industry, demonstrating a deep understanding of engineering operations and project management.

Specialized Experience: Hold a minimum of 4 years of specific experience in a shop or field Project Engineering role, or an equivalent position, showcasing proficiency in project execution and coordination.

Professional Registration: Registered as a Professional Engineer of Ontario, ensuring adherence to professional standards and ethical practices.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficient knowledge of Nuclear Codes such as ASME III, V, VIII, IX, N285, N286, and Nuclear Standards including N286, Z299, and N299, highlighting expertise in nuclear engineering regulations and standards.

  • Possess proficient knowledge of materials, machining techniques, manufacturing processes, and field execution practices, essential for ensuring quality and efficiency in project implementation.

  • Exhibit proficient knowledge of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) applications and limitations essential for ensuring the integrity of materials and components.

  • Proficiency in writing technical reports and communicating complex technical concepts effectively in English.

Technical Skills:

  • Possess expertise in CAD software, enabling efficient design and drafting activities.

  • Experience in estimating the level of effort required for new projects and developing work processes for pioneering projects, indicating strategic planning and foresight.

  • Proficiency in executing work on critical paths and providing effective work direction in time-sensitive situations.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Exhibit an in-depth understanding of Human Performance errors and their prevention tools, along with a thorough grasp of Foreign Material Exclusion practices, emphasizing a commitment to safety and quality assurance.

  • Communication, with the ability to translate complex technical requirements into field-executable procedures, facilitating smooth project implementation.

  • Display competence in training engineers, technicians, and trades in technically complex operations, ensuring proficiency and adherence to standards.

Business Acumen:

  • Understand customer relations and political subtext, along with contract and cost models, to navigate project dynamics effectively and achieve successful outcomes.

    The base salary range for this position in [[Ontario]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[100,000]] and $[[156,000]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
