  • Must have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, and be able to handle multiple job functions.

  • Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to learn specialized computer systems.

  • Must be willing to work additional hours during peak periods.

  • Required to keep current with all mandatory training, loan documentation, departmental policies, and federal, state, and compliance regulations.

This position is designated as critical for the Harvard Federal Credit Union as it provides non-deferrable services that must be performed in the event of an emergency or weather-related closure.

Consumer Loan Servicing

  • Creates, analyzes, and monitors loan servicing reports related to data changes, collateral and insurance tracking, and loan repayment.

  • Initiates loan set-up, performs data entry, account maintenance and corrections in core banking system.

  • Manages loan payoffs, including system calculations, issuance of letters, checks and processing payments, title tracking and management,

  • Monitors insurance coverage on loans and oversees timely review and endorsement of claims.

  • Audits completion and accuracy of loan disclosures and closing documents, timely loan funding and payment posting.

    Consumer Loan & Credit Card Origination

  • Prepares credit cards and loans for underwriting, reviews application and credit reports, determines debt ratio, and follows guidelines with respect to verification of employment and income.

Customer Service & Member Support

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for internal and external inquiries, upholds high customer service standards, promptly responding to phone calls, emails, and Slack requests. Effectively handles member complaints, and escalates when appropriate.

  • Properly documents member interactions and exceptions, provides feedback to management concerning issues that impact the organization, and works effectively with department managers and staff on initiatives to enhance the member experience.

  • Facilitates meetings with members to provide lending support, and references multiple data sources to effectively counsel on products, and processes.

  • Provides support and expertise to internal departments for troubleshooting member issues, conducts thorough research, and facilitates resolutions.

Systems, Business Operations & Compliance

  • Identifies and implements solutions to operational issues, and follows processes to minimize data discrepancies.

  • Develops and updates loan processes and procedures, proactively identifies opportunities for operational efficiency and to improve the member experience.

  • Maintains appropriate level of knowledge related to core banking and origination systems, consumer lending policies, procedures, required documents, and applicable state and federal regulations.

  • Provides assistance in solving system related problems working directly with internal departments and third-party providers.

  • Responsible for timely transfer and maintenance of documents on imaging software, and oversees archiving and destruction of documentation in accordance with records and retention policy.

  • Conducts quality control reviews of new loans granted and loan changes on core banking system.

  • Collects and ensures timely delivery of loan files to internal and external auditors.

  • Keeps current with all mandatory training.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Consumer Lending Manager, the Consumer Lending Generalist coordinates aspects of the consumer loan servicing and origination program, associated processes and procedures, corrections, loan record management, release of paid loans, insurance and title tracking, and loan processing. Works independently with minimal supervision to provide support and customer service to members, retail, operations, and key stakeholders related to the lending operations.

During the initial 90-day training period, new employees may be expected to work in the office more frequently, up to full-time.
