Heidelberg Materials is looking for a qualified Operations Specialist at our Calgary, AB aggregates operations, reporting to the Mine Manager. This position is responsible for providing operational analysis related to cost, financial performance and operational efficiency at a local level for the aggregates operation in Calgary and Cochrane. This position will be the central point of contact for the reporting of financial information to the accounting and payroll departments.

What You'll Get To Do:

  • Provide month end cost of sales reporting including reconciliation of raw materials purchases, inventory and production along with supporting backup information for journal entry

  • Verify financial statement accuracy, generate and maintain Essbase reporting to be used in financial statement and business performance analysis

  • Assist management in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual operations forecasts and operating plans

  • Extensive use of Aggregates Dashboard to track KPIs and generate efficiency reporting for operations, sales/marketing and management

  • Generate specialized financial reporting as required

  • Maintain the Purchase Order Tracker, issue Purchase Orders and track the monthly spend

  • Submit and process invoices into MAP

  • Support all payroll functions including time tracking, input and status changes for the plant hourly workforce

  • Vacation tracking for salaried and hourly employees

  • Tracking and coordinating local light duty fleet

  • Support administration of hiring and onboarding processes for hourly employees

  • Assist in various ad hoc projects including AFE and Post Investment Reviews (PIR’s) analysis

  • General Administrative Duties including but not limited to:

  • Supplies/Ordering/Delivery

  • Manage site communications including postings and bulletins

  • Meeting & Event Planning

  • Other administrative duties as required

What We Are Looking For:

  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent experience

  • Accounting experience in the areas of month-end reporting, income statement comprehension and journal entry preparation

  • Exposure to financial accounting software

  • Proficient in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)

  • Other software experience would be considered an asset (SAP, Kronos)

  • Excellent organizational and analysis skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Desire to understand the commercial, technical, and financial aspects of the business and how they relate to each other
