Your Opportunity

We are seeking a hydrogeologist to work as an integrated member of our Water Resources team in British Columbia. We are a multi-disciplinary team of technical experts that provide water resources solutions for clients in the mining, industrial, government, and oil and gas sectors throughout BC and Canada.

You will contribute to hydrogeological deliverables on a wide variety of projects and must be able to work with the team on large, multi-disciplinary projects including baseline data collection programs, provincial and federal environmental and impact assessment projects, operational mine water balances, feasibility studies, groundwater supply projects, and BC Water Sustainability Act (WSA) groundwater use authorizations. Experience developing conceptual, analytical, and numerical groundwater models to provide objective-oriented solutions for clients on these projects is required for this position. Strong analytical and communication skills will be considered assets.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.

  • Develop conceptual, analytical, and numerical groundwater models to:

    • Characterize baseline groundwater systems at locations across Canada and the world.
    • Predict potential effects of mining or large industrial projects on the receiving environment.
  • Provide input to permitting and engineering water balance models for industrial projects of various scales.

  • Estimate groundwater inflow rates to excavations for dewatering design and groundwater management plans.

  • Compile and QA/QC large hydrogeological datasets.

  • Perform data visualization and analysis using GIS programs and Leapfrog.

  • Prepare technical reports that document field investigations, and effectively communicate analytical results, interpretations, data gaps, and uncertainties.

  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to prepare and execute baseline and impact assessment projects, feasibility studies, groundwater and surface water interaction assessments, groundwater supply assessments, BC Water Sustainability Act groundwater licensing, and groundwater inflow and dewatering assessments.

  • Participate in field data collection programs at remote sites.

  • Assist project managers with developing project budgets, determining project scope, and establishing project schedules.

  • Provide technical hydrogeological support and direction to other teams at Stantec.

  • Provide mentorship and training to junior hydrogeological staff.

  • Support on-going business development efforts with other members of the Water Resources team. Help develop and maintain client contacts. Help prepare proposals, develop work plans and budgets and manage project and task work.

  • Valid G driver’s license is required for business travel.

  • Experience with finite element and finite difference numerical groundwater modelling techniques and software (FELFOW, MODFLOW, GUIs, etc.).

  • Experience with Flopy or R is considered an asset.

  • Experience with ArcGIS and Leapfrog software is considered an asset.

Education and Experience

P.Eng. or P.Geo. registration or eligibility for immediate registration through EGBC in British Columbia is a requirement for this position.

An educational background in engineering or geosciences.

Three to eight years of related consulting experience related to physical or contaminant hydrogeology in the mining, oil and gas, groundwater supply development, and/or groundwater resource management sectors with demonstrable experience in the in British Columbia.

Familiarity with British Columbia water resources acts, regulations, policies and guidance as they pertain to the permitting and regulation of groundwater for mining and industrial projects in BC including the Environmental Management Act, Mines Act, and Water Sustainability Act.

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $67,500 - Lower Mainland $97,900 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
