Overview

The Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance Manager will play an integral role in supporting Burlington’s Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance Center of Excellence. The Manager will engage with cross-functional partners, third party service providers and vendors, to collaborate; communicate; and implement product compliance strategies that support the off-price business model.The Manager is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining manuals and product testing protocols that ensure the quality, safety and integrity of the Burlington product. The Manager will bring their expertise in testing, labeling and certification for a wide range of consumer goods, including but not limited to children’s products, home décor, tabletop, food and cosmetics.
A Day in the Life

  • Product Testing, Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Update and maintain the product testing protocols for Hardlines and Softlines products, including but not limited to, textiles, accessories, food use items, juvenile products, electrical products, and home décor.

  • Continuously evolve and update the product testing protocols to remain inline with industry and regulatory standards while upholding Burlington’s quality standards.

  • Research and develop product testing and performance requirements for new product categories. Work with 3rd party labs to draft and implement testing protocols and/ or vendor guidance documents when needed.

  • Define and evolve the product testing process. Determine scope and frequency of product testing; test report communication process; and record retention processes.

  • Review and action upon product test reports and certificates of compliance.

  • Stakeholder in the process to review, update and disseminate department manuals for product safety, chemical compliance, and regulatory requirements.

  • Actively monitor US Federal, State and Regional activity related to product safety and chemical regulations. Provide summary to leadership, make recommendations, and execute compliance strategies.

  • Partner with other members of the Legal Department to execute product safety recalls.

  • Liase with Federal and State agencies and regulators as needed

  • Training & Process Improvement

  • Develop and deploy training materials to educate vendors, merchants and other cross functional teams on the Product Safety & Compliance Department’s processes, procedures, product safety standards, chemical compliance and emerging regulations.

  • Partner with Vendor Relations to establish a role for the department in new vendor onboarding meetings.

  • Seek opportunities to utilize technology to streamline department processes and procedures to drive efficiency and cost savings.

  • Attend industry workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. and provide executive summary and key takeaways for action.

  • Audits

  • Conduct in-store product audits on a quarterly basis and upon request. Create reports, communicate findings and perform any necessary follow up.

  • Conduct DC audits (virtually and/or onsite) to ensure ongoing adherence to FDA requirements. Issue audit reports with findings and any recommended actions.

You'll Come With

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a corporate retail Product Safety, Integrity, & Quality role

  • Extensive knowledge of consumer goods test methods and testing requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of key US safety and chemical regulations, such as CPSIA, CA Prop 65, Children’s Products reporting rules, etc.

  • Experience with US FDA & State food and cosmetics regulations

  • Experience as a people manager a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to handle complex issues, evaluate risk, and communicate findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

  • Personable, team and service oriented. Ability to cultivate relationships with internal and external business partners.

  • Ability to work independently and leverage resources to solve problems and deliver results in a dynamic environment.

  • Highly organized with a keen sense of urgency

  • Proficient in MS office applications
