STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Provides assistance and information to park visitors, promotes park safety, provides park policies and regulations, helps maintain parks for cleanliness, and provides security services in City parks and facilities. The incumbent may be required to work flexible shifts that include evenings, weekends, and holidays. This is a part time position that will work no more than 29 hours per week.

NOTE: Minimum age requirement is 18 years of age.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE/LICENSING & TRAINING

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED, and any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

LICENSING & TRAINING:

  • Valid State Driver\'s License
  • Defensive tactics; training to be provided after hire
  • First Aid; training to be provided after hire

*Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitors park activities and users; enforces park policies and regulations.
  • Performs park security activities; monitors events; identifies and reports unsafe conditions and vandalism.
  • Patrols parks to deter criminal and other undesirable activity; resolves issues as appropriate with the individual(s) involved; notifies dispatch if inappropriate activity escalates and/or may become dangerous.
  • Investigates criminal activity and prepares reports.
  • Provides assistance in emergency situations; calls for resources as situation dictates.
  • Answers routine questions and assists park users as required.
  • Sets up tables, chairs, barricades, traffic cones, etc.
  • Assists with setting up for special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in case of an emergency.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Departmental and City policies, instructions, laws, and regulations, City ordinances and State statutes for park use.
  • Park safety practices.
  • Patrol and security procedures and practices.

SKILL IN:

  • Performing basic life support and basic first aid procedures.

ABILITY TO:

  • Work independently without close supervision.
  • Handle encounters with hostile or irate individuals.
  • Conduct facility checks
  • Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public.

The employee must frequently work on ones feet for extended periods of time and lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
