Hutchinson Industries Inc. Production Supervisor (APU Leader) in Buffalo, New York

General DescriptionThe APU Leader is responsible for managing and coaching the production staff who are completing production within their departments as well as managing the safety, quality, and efficiency of the area. The APU leader will promote a positive work environment, and support continuous improvement efforts including employee training, problem solving activities, and lean manufacturing initiatives (HES). The APU leader is responsible for ensuring work assignment and completion of assigned work for all production staff in their respective departments.Specific DutiesBe visible on the plant floor (75% of the day).Monitor workplace operations for compliance with all environmental, health and safety rules and procedures and immediately respond to any non-conformances.Hold operators accountable for following all safety policies.Support Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives, participate in EHS audits and investigations and set the example for workers by following all EHS rules and procedures.Ensure that risk assessments are performed annually and reviewed with the employees.Validate employees are trained to complete their assigned tasks (I Do, We Do, You Do).Conduct 5-minute daily meeting with team to ensure work is assigned and collect feedback on open issues.Conduct random workstation audits to ensure the operators are following procedures.Ensure department APU GEMBA boards are updated and maintained.Participate problem solving initiatives and corrective actions using the Problem Process Card (PPC) and other root cause analysis tools.Implement Lean tools (HES) to improve safety, quality, cost, and delivery. Hold operators accountable for sustaining HES initiatives (i.e. 6S).Participate in development of new risk assessments, review and update existing risk assessments.Ensure operators are achieving rates and troubleshoot and coach when rates are not achieved.Make sure all products produced in the department meet quality standards.Keep the plant clean and organized.Ensure daily production information is being entered into the ERP software and all manufacturing orders are being correctly processed at each step of the routing (job on & off). As well as completing manufacturing orders and putting product to stock in correct locations.Mentor, coach, and discipline when required, employees who are not fulfilling his or her job requirements.Be accountable for on time delivery of product to the shipping dock.Assist with the hiring process including interviewing for open positions and onboarding as needed.Work with materials team to request material delivery through ERP and deliver raw materials needed for production.QualificationsPrevious experience working in a production environment, minimum 3 years.Minimum High School Diploma or EquivalentAssociates’ degree preferred.Experience in lean manufacturing and root cause analysis concepts.Basic computer/PC skills.Technical/Engineering background is a plus.Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to all functional areas.Ability to hold confidentiality with sensitive information.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.The employee frequently is required to stand; walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. A large degree of lifting (moderate to heavyweight), bending, squatting, and maneuvering.
