Position Summary:

UB is seeking an Executive Director for Interprofessional Education to be the leader for generating and disseminating best practices of interprofessional education and practice across the university and via community partners. The Executive Director will be the catalyst for these efforts across the university and the UB Academic Health Center ( AHC ). The Executive Director will work with an engaged leadership team from each of the UB health science schools to further develop and implement a bold, state of the art curriculum for IPE and IP practice. The Executive Director will lead the IPE cross-school leadership team and manage the IPE office operations. The Executive Director will work to innovate new educational models of education and practice across the UB AHC to create a learning environment that best prepares students for the future of team-based care. There is an expectation that the Executive Director for IPE will actively publish findings derived from the research and IPE models implemented at UB as a means to advance scholarship in the field. The Executive Director will also spearhead grant applications focused on IPE healthcare in collaboration with members of the IPE leadership team and the AHC faculty. The environment for interprofessional education and collaborative practice has never been stronger at UB, and it is currently a prime area of emphasis for the university.

The AHC at the university and the IPE program is broad and unique. It encompasses and engages fully the five AHC schools, the School of Social Work ( SSW ) and additional programs:

  • Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences ( JSMBS )

  • School of Dental Medicine ( SDM )

  • School of Nursing ( SON ; Nursing, DNP )

  • School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences ( SPPS )

  • School of Public Health and Health Professions ( SPHHP ; Athletic Training, Dietetics/Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Public Health)

  • School of Social Work ( SSW )

Additional affiliated departments and programs include the Department of Biomedical Engineering ( BME ; School of Engineering), the Department of and Speech Language Pathology and Audiology (College of Arts and Sciences, CAS ), Counseling Psychology ( CAS ), the School of Management and the Physician Assistant program at Canisius University.

The Executive Director position reports regularly to the AHC deans in person and using written reports of progress. The Executive Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Health Sciences Research Administration and Finance. The Executive Director will be provided the resources and institutional support to implement the program and make transformational changes required to be regarded among the best IPE programs in North America.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensures a dynamic strategic vision and plan for IPE at the university and AHC .

  • Provides leadership in interprofessional curricular initiatives for the five health sciences schools and affiliated programs.

  • Works with educational leaders across UB to support curricular changes and faculty development as it pertains to IPE .

  • Spearheads the planning, implementation and evaluation of the IPE curriculum.

  • Facilitates the design, implementation and evaluation of interprofessional practice opportunities for health sciences students, including digital badges.

  • Innovates the future of team-based IPE for the health professions to prepare the current and emerging workforce for today and the future.

  • Conducts research on IPE in collaboration with the health sciences faculty.

  • Spearheads grant applications on IPE in collaboration with health sciences faculty.

  • Publishes findings from research and innovative IPE models implemented at UB.

  • Represents UB in national IPE forums.

  • Presents collaborative work on IPE at national and international conferences.

  • Identifies and establishes collaborative opportunities with external health sciences entities.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will bring significant experience designing, implementing and evaluating interprofessional educational and practice-based change for health sciences at similarly complex institutions. This person must be doctorally prepared in a field related to the health sciences, possess a national reputation as an educator and researcher with significant scholarly accomplishments in IPE , and have demonstrated expertise in:

  • Interprofessional education and practice.

  • High-quality teaching and research experience in a university setting.

  • Curriculum development and education.

  • Collaboration across health sciences disciplines.
