Natural Resources Conservation Service Administrative Support Assistant in Brookings, South Dakota

Summary This position is located in an Area Office, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The primary purpose of the position is to serve as an assistant for clerical and administrative activities pertaining to correspondence, budget, purchasing, human resources, timekeeping, travel, and related administrative areas for as Area Office. Responsibilities Serve as the Area Administrative Coordinator. Assist with tracking various items such as property, employee training, registration for workshops, and other requests for the supervisor. Assist with the purchase of supplies, equipment, and services, using mandatory or open market sources, by ensuring proper and timely documentation and reconciling. Help maintain field office accounts and maintain procurement records following agency guidelines. Review timesheets for all employees in the area for compliance with policy. Answer timekeeping questions from staff. Enter travel authorizations and travel vouchers for all employees in the area. Answer travel related questions for staff. Assist in review of vehicular accidents involving government vehicles in the area, helping ensure the proper forms are completed and forwarded to appropriate action personnel in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Schedule meetings, make arrangements for meeting facilities and notify participants of schedule changes; compiles and distributes relevant materials to be used in presentations or training conducted by the supervisor and staff. Serve as main point of contact for administrative functions for all staff in the area. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. A minimum 40 words per minute typing skill is required. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-05 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience must include experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: Providing a variety of administrative and technical support relating to personnel, procurement, budget and/or general administrative management; OR Substitution of education for the GS-05 level: Completion of 4 years of education above high school level leading to a bachelor's degree; OR Combination of Education and Experience for the GS-05 level: Completion of a combination of education and experience, as described above (combination of education and specialized experience which equals at least 100% as outlined in the OPM qualifications policy). This combination has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge and/or experience to successfully perform the duties of this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience must include experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: Providing a variety of administrative and technical support relating to personnel, procurement, budget and/or general administrative management, AND; Organizing travel and meeting arrangements for management officials and program staff. The work is typic ally sedentary and requires some walking, bending, standing and carrying of light items such as paper and books. Work Environment: The work is performed primarily in a typical office setting and involves the normal risks and discomforts of an office. This position is eligible for telework within the local commuting area of the position and other flexible work arrangements.
