The Role at a glance:

We are looking to add a motivated Expeditor to our Constellation team at the New York Botanical Garden in Bronx, NY.

The expediter is responsible for keeping a smooth workflow between the kitchen and the front of house team, setting the pace for orders and pickups throughout the various outlets. This position works in a fast-paced environment to get orders out faster and more efficiently.

As food expeditor, you must have excellent communication skills and experience in a restaurant’s busy environment. You must have enough stamina to be in constant motion, with the skills to coordinate and organize processes and people.

The goal is to make service faster and better to help enhance our quality and reputation.

Compensation is $20 an hour.

What you'll be doing:

  1. Performs all routine and assigned opening and closing procedures as well as side work. Is responsible for alerting management of any supply needs or related concerns prior to the start of service.

  2. Ensure that the kitchen pass is clean and tidy at the start of the shift.

  3. Fully stock all disposables and paper goods at the kitchen pass.

  4. Provide attentive, professional and welcoming service to guests, assisting coworkers as needed and/or instructed.

  5. Properly clean, store and stock all items at the end of the shift.

  6. Ensure the efficient flow of orders from the waiters to the kitchen

  7. Ensure orders are being prepared with the correct priority

  8. Assist in the final preparation of dishes, as applicable

  9. Check dishes before delivery for accuracy, presentation and temperature

  10. Deliver orders to maintain fast service

  11. Eliminate obstacles in service, food preparation lines or dishwashing

  12. Inspect the premises according to quality and sanitation standards and assist in cleaning

  13. Transfer important information between the kitchen and the wait staff (e.g. when a customer has a particular request)

  14. Handle complaints from clients to preserve the restaurant’s reputation

  15. Support other tasks as needed (e.g., telephone orders)

  16. Adhere to cell phone policy.

  17. Responsible for alerting management of any concern that may require escalated attention, whether it be guest or staff related.

  18. Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as they pertain to health, safety, sanitation, food handling, etc.

  19. Follow all sign in and out procedures for keys if applicable

  20. Follow proper timekeeping policies and procedures.

  21. Other related duties, as assigned.

  1. Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings and training sessions

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a quality restaurant/hotel operation or high-level bar.

  • Knowledge of New York State Health and Sanitation Guidelines.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively, independently or collaboratively, and efficiently with time constraints in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be customer service oriented with positive interpersonal skills.

  • Must be detail oriented and perform work accurately and timely.

  • Ability to effectively, professionally, and respectfully communicate with co- workers, supervisors, vendors, and guests.

  • Ability to maintain composure in a potentially stressful environment.
