Commonwealth Care Alliance Occupational Health Nurse II in Boston, Massachusetts

Position Summary:
Supports the occupational health function to maintain and promote employee health and support CCA’s employee health and wellness strategy. Ensures legal and regulatory requirements are met or exceeded.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory occupational health requirements including, but not limited to OSHA, DPH, ADA and FMLA
Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices for compliance with corporate and regulatory health and safety standards. Identify processes and procedures to mitigate or eliminate potential hazards
Develop and implement infection control strategies to prevent illness within the workforce and secondary transmission of illness to members
In collaboration with manager, oversee CCA’s Respiratory Protection Program
Train employees on the proper use of personal protective (PPE)
Conduct respirator fit tests, monitor respirator inventory, and provide PPE donning and doffing training
Coordinate vaccination clinics and administer vaccinations and health screenings in compliance with occupational health standards and regulations
Review vaccination records of employees and new hires to ensure required vaccinations are documented
Perform phlebotomy to assess for vaccine induced immunity
Participate in TB risk assessments and conduct TB testing where indicated.
Deliver health education and training programs on various health and safety topics
Advise staff on Bloodborne Pathogen protocols to mitigate employee exposures
Perform ergonomic assessments to assist with proper workstation set-up
Review accommodation requests. Collaborate with employees, managers, and HR business partners to ensure compliance with ADA requirements
Oversee Return-to-Work from STD/FMLA leave of absences
Interface with Workers’ Compensation insurer on work-related injuries or illnesses
Remain up to date with current health and safety legislation
Working Conditions:
Office setting with travel by car or public transportation to other office/clinical sites.
May travel to member’s homes or other community settings to conduct accident investigations or observe workflow.
Required Education:
Associate’s degree
Diploma in nursing
Desired Education:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S)
Certification in Case Management
Certification in ADA administration
Required Licensing:
- Unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
Required Experience:
- 5+ years of occupational health nursing experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Broad based knowledge of occupational health and general nursing practices, procedures, and protocols
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with employees at all levels and promote a culture of safety
Ability to conduct presentations and trainings to employees and managers
Ability to perform tasks or duties with frequent interruptions.
Attention to detail to maintain accurate records
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to address complex occupational health issues.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Massachusetts workers’ compensation law, HIPPA, OSHA, ADA and FMLA
