Job Summary: The Director, CPD Operations reports to the Associate Chief Nurse, Perioperative Services. This position is responsible for the operations management of Central Processing function in Perioperative Services by supporting 40 operating rooms on 2 campuses, 3 CPD locations, and in the medical center by supporting over 80 internal and external clinics, the procedural departments, and Labor and Delivery. This function includes all programs, policies, standards, procedures, and operations related to the recycling, processing, production, sterilization and disposition of critical medical/surgical equipment, instrumentation, supplies, and linen.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Provides leadership and resource to the CPD supervisors and CPD staff. Participates in development ofkey strategic goals, performance measures and leads operational redesign to meet goals. Collaborates withLeadership Staff on the various committees to develop and implement orientation, mandatory educationrequirements, practice review, and process improvement with staff.

  2. Anticipates and communicates change, encourages creativity and provides leadership for the change process. Serves as a member or lead on committees/task forces that support perioperative services and Medical Center initiatives. Responsible for working with clinical and support staff to manage resources with Perioperative Services.

  3. Implements approved policies and procedures and ensures effective communication to and compliance by all staff. Prepares and maintains required reports and records which support the Central Processing Function. Implements production schedules and supply levels to assure timeliness in reprocessing and the availability of critical patient care equipment, surgical instrumentation and materials.

  4. Develops performance improvement systems that monitor service quality, regulatory compliance, and timely and accurate service delivery. Operates within and exceed professional standards, licensing, and accreditation requirements, including AAMI, IAHCSMM, CDC, DPH, EPA, FDA, JCAHO, and OSHA and assures knowledge by staff.

  5. Works closely with clinical advisors to order instruments and kits. Works with Information Systems to develop, implement, and manage information systems for Perioperative Services scheduling, charging, and materials management.

  6. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 2-3 Indirect Reports: 51-100

  7. Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  2. Certificate 1 Cert Sterile Tech required.

  3. 1-3 years related work experience required in CPD or Perioperative Services and 3-5 years supervisory/management experience required

  4. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Certified Surgical Technologist, Licensed Registered Nurse, or Central Processing Technician.

  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate broad and comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex and/or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas.

  7. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

  8. Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
