Aston Carter Controller in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Title: Controller

Pay Range: $120,000 - $180,000 per year

Hybrid in Boston, MA

Our client, an established greater Boston contract furniture dealership, is seeking a unique individual to fill a wide range of financial responsibilities, including those found in a combination of Controller and Bookkeeping roles. This individual will support the Executive Team through high-level financial planning, bookkeeping, and contributing to the company’s overall growth plans.

Job Summary:

The Controller will help direct and oversee the financial activities of the company, direct the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and create forecasts predicting future growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounting, budget preparation, audit, and tax functions.

  • Work with other department heads to monitor each department and make recommendations.

  • Direct the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports.

  • Compare sales and profit projections to actual figures and budgeted expenses to actual expenses; make or oversee any necessary adjustments to future projections and budgets.

  • Review planning process and suggest improvements to current methods.

  • Analyze operations to identify areas in need of reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.

  • Study long-range economic trends and project their impact on future growth in sales and market share.

  • Identify opportunities for expansion into new product areas.

  • Oversee investment of funds and work with investment bankers to raise additional capital required for expansion when required.

  • Work in collaboration with the Project Coordination and

  • Management teams on invoicing.

  • Research and implement new operation and enterprise software.

  • Assist in the business development goals of the company, including outreach and participation in client presentations and client negotiations when required.

  • Maintain records according to generally accepted accounting principles, including journal entries, asset depreciation schedules, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, check payments, and reconciliation of bank statements and credit cards.

  • Monitor and plan cash flow, reporting back to company executives.

  • Administer Payroll and Employee Reimbursement.

  • Manage 401-K plan.

  • Implement and manage SPIFF (Sales Initiative) program.

  • Manage Manufacturer DIF Program (Dealer Incentive Funds).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance required.

  • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in financial management required.

  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.

  • Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods working at a desk and on a computer.
