An amazing opportunity has opened up in the Boone Community School District! We are now looking for a 7-12 Activities Director who will have the privilege of overseeing a wide array of athletic and activity opportunities available to our students. Students in Boone can participate in everything from orchestra, to swimming, tennis or quiz bowl. Boone CSD has the opportunities of a larger school but with the benefits of being a smaller school district with strong community support. The successful candidate will demonstrate their commitment to our student population by supporting and overseeing athletics and activities with equal importance. The successful candidate will also set high expectations for themselves and for others by demonstrating integrity, collaboration, compassion, a growth mindset, and enthusiasm for the position, the students, staff and the district. ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR - JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education, Certification/Licensure, Experience, Equipment)
SKILLS, KNOWDLEGE AND ABILITY
Knowledge of, or ability to acquire, IHSAA, IGHSAU, Raccoon River Conference, and board policies rules and regulations.
Knowledge of budgeting procedures and management related to areas of responsibilities.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with personnel, parents and booster groups.
Ability to organize management details to assure efficient operations and crowd control/safety at activities and athletic events.
Knowledge and skill in effective supervision/evaluation.
Knowledge of athletic equipment/facilities management and maintenance.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to handle adversity in an objective manner.
Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance; ability to foresee potential problems and take appropriate actions.
Knowledge of safety procedures and local and state regulations.
EDUCATION - Must possess or be eligible to obtain evaluator approval prior to the start of the position. A master’s degree with a focus on athletic administration or a valid administrative certificate is preferred.EXPERIENCE
Successful teaching and coaching experience required.
Related administrative experience highly desired
ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR - JOB DESCRIPTION
LEADERSHIP AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by all staff members and students for whom responsible.
Makes recommendations for all co-curricular activities personnel assignments.
Develops and distributes appropriate athletic/activity procedure manuals which shall include, but not be limited to, a coaches/sponsors handbook.
Provides pre-service and in-service programs each school year for all co-curricular activity staff members.
Evaluates and/or provides assistance in the evaluation of the head coach/sponsor of each activity in his/her assigned duties.
Evaluates, with the assistance of each head coach/sponsor, the assistant coaches/sponsors and staff members involved in each activity.
Serves as ex-officio member of Boone Booster Club Board of Directors.
Fosters good school and community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the co-curricular activity programs.
Coordinates publicity and news releases pertaining to the co-curricular activities program.
Develops community contacts and works with community organizations.
Remains abreast of developments in secondary school co-curricular activities by maintaining professional membership and contacts.
Represents the school district at conferences and district, State and National meetings, as directed by the Superintendent Principal.
Provides professional development and leadership training for the coaching and activities staff.
Provides for ongoing improvement, development, and leadership of the athletes, students, and programs under his/her supervision.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizes, administers, and supervises the overall program of co-curricular activities for the district.
Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all practice schedules and co-curricular activity events.
Responsible for the scheduling and rental of District facilities as well as making all necessary arrangements for the use of facilities used in the co-curricular activity programs.
Secures custodial and maintenance help for the co-curricular activity programs.
Arranges for hosting and providing facilities for visiting schools.
Makes arrangements for transportation and approves meals for away co-curricular activities and/or events.
Contacts officials for home events. Provides for payment and welfare of officials while guests of our school.
Supervises scouting assignments.
Develops procedures for filming and videotaping co-curricular activities.
Prepares and administers the co-curricular activities programs’ budgets.
Coordinates and approves all requisitions for supplies, uniforms, and equipment for the co-curricular activity programs.
Insures that each coach/sponsor provides an end of year summary, uniform, and equipment inventory and list of needs for subsequent year.
Develops procedures for co-curricular activity staff to issue, repair, clean, and store all department supplies, uniforms, and equipment.
Keeps records of the results of all middle and senior high school co-curricular activity contests.
Implements appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of co- curricular activity participants.
Monitors eligibility of participants in co-curricular activities.
Administers the co-curricular activity award program.
Provides for ticket sales and the proper handling and accounting of monies involved.
Coordinates school sponsored co-curricular activity program fund raising events.
Monitors procedures for staff payment of extra-curricular supervisory assignments.
Supervises the personnel in charge of cheerleading units.
Is available for home contest duty.
Manages all state sponsored co-curricular activity contests assigned to the Boone Community Schools.
Assures that co-curricular opportunities for boys and girls are equivalent.
Coordinates the intramural program.
