Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is seeking an IT Database Administration Analyst III, who can perform a full range of hands-on functions in the design, analysis, installation, maintenance, and security of database systems. This position requires experience with data integration and operational relationships between databases and applications. The location of the position is within the Information Technology department of IDOC located at the Central Office in Boise, Idaho. Primary responsibilities of the position include analyzing data needs throughout the agency and planning solutions to securely provide needed data through various channels. Incumbents interface with customers, developers, and network engineers to establish, administer and secure databases and database servers. Solutions utilize a variety of data management products to ensure consistent, secure, and meaningful availability of data.

Responsibilities:

  • Researches opportunities to improve database technology standards and identifies best practices.

  • Ensures effective management of assigned databases and associated applications to provide uninterrupted availability of information to users.

  • Designs and implements procedures and controls necessary to protect information system data.

  • Provides guidance and direction both within IT and among users for the effective and secure use of organizational data.

  • Includes database performance tuning and database storage forecasting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience installing, administering and monitoring production databases and database servers. Typically gained by a minimum of one year of full-time work experience where installing, administering and monitoring production databases and database servers was part of your primary job functions.

  • Experience monitoring and tuning the performance of databases, queries and indexes. Typically gained by a minimum of one year of full-time work experience where you regularly monitored and tuned the performance of databases, queries and indexes as part of your primary responsibilities.

  • Experience developing procedures and controls to ensure database security. Typically gained by a minimum of one year of full-time work experience where you developed procedures and controls to ensure database security, integrity and availability.

  • Experience resolving complex database problems. Typically gained by a minimum of two years of full-time work experience where you resolved complex database problems as part of your primary job functions OR at least one year of full-time work experience where you resolved various level-three database escalation tickets as your primary job responsibility.

  • Experience training and mentoring staff throughout the organization on the effective and secure use of data. Typically gained by a minimum of one year of full-time work experience where training and mentoring staff throughout the organization on the effective and secure use of data was part of your primary job responsibilities.

  • Experience planning database resources. Typically gained by a minimum of one year of full-time work experience where database resource planning was part of your primary job responsibilities.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server and its core features (SSMS, SSIS, SSRS).

  • Experience in developing and maintaining SQL Server databases.

  • Expertise in writing SQL queries and stored procedures.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
