State of Idaho - Department of Administration Opportunity

Looking for a solid work/life balance, steady paycheck, great benefits, and an opportunity to serve the great state of Idaho? The Department of Administration currently has an opening in the Office of Group Insurance as an Employee Benefits Specialist.

The ideal candidate will have experience administering an employer's benefit program; possess strong problem-solving skills; and the ability to process a large volume of detail-oriented transactions with a high degree of accuracy.

We serve Idaho by promoting responsible government through expert customer support.

Examples of Duties

  • Liaison between active employees and medical and dental carriers for premium-related issues.

  • Respond to active employee medical/dental plan premium questions, complex inquiries related to active medical/dental plan and related OGI policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for collection, reconciliation and remittance of all active employee medical and dental premiums and processing premium discrepancies.

  • Manage medical and dental billings for disabled employees.

  • Provide training and guidance as a primary point of contact for state employees, state human resource and payroll staff and insurance carriers regarding medical plan enrollment and premiums.

  • Manage sophisticated Excel spreadsheets and record systems.

  • Consistently process a high number of detail-oriented transactions with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of group medical and dental insurance

Typically met by at least 3 years of experience OR at least 2 upper division college courses related to the subject area AND at least 2 years of experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in the subject area

  • Experience compiling data and preparing reports.

Typically met by at least 1 year of full-time work experience completing the job duties listed above.

Specialty Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience maintaining a computerized records system; performing mathematical calculations; maintaining complex spreadsheets

  • Experience: developing, presenting and conducting group training.

Typically met by at least 1 year of full-time work experience completing the job duties listed above.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of group insurance program design, benefit levels.

  • Experience researching and resolving complex benefit issues;

  • Experience interpreting and explaining insurance contract provisions, policies, procedures and regulations

  • Experience performing payroll deductions and/or premium payments for a group benefits program

Please note: The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check.

This position will also interact with a diverse customer base and must be able to interact in a non-partisan manner when working in political environments.
