Collins Aerospace Communication Center Radio Operator in Bohemia, New York

As a Communications Center Radio Operator, you will be able to do all of this and more! The Communications Center Radio Operator will manage air-to-ground and ground-to-air traffic radio messages and communications for airline dispatchers, pilots, air traffic controllers and other authorized agents. They will provide outstanding customer service while receiving, copying and delivering Air Traffic Control clearances, advisories and information requests.

Collins Aerospace will provide training on weather code symbols, procedures related to Air Traffic Control relay operations and our communications regulations, procedures, abbreviations and the operation of all applicable equipment. All training will be completed on-site at the Communication Center and must be successfully completed within the 6-month probationary period, in order to continue employment.

Job Responsibilities:

Operate HF/VHF radio, computer and telephone communication equipment. Transcribe pilot communications real-time into the airline and FAA systems Support a 24/7 operation with mandatory shift work Assist with communications between aircraft and various ground support stations. Keep Aviation Voice Service Staff and ATC Facilities up to date with information pertaining to in-flight anomalies. The starting rate is $21.00 per hour and Radio Operators receive generous increases each year per the Union Contract with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Basic Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent in general education Must have resided within the United States for at least 3 consecutive years out of the last 5. Ability to pass a government-sponsored background investigation to include fingerprinting, and either U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Alien status.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must be capable of passing a typing speed of 40 words per minute As a safety-sensitive position, complying to DOT random drug and alcohol testing regulations Ability to support a 24/7 - 365-day operation Successfully pass a post-offer physical examination and audiogram. Qualify to receive a Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit and obtain within 6 months of employment Experience in radio communications, call center customer service, help desk, or radio dispatching Ideally your experience will be in airline transportation services or public agency dispatching. Familiarity with the technical and operational terms encountered in aeronautical communication is also desired.
