Bloomington Normal Water Reclamation District Industrial Mechanic/General Laborer for a Wastewater Treatment Facility in Bloomington, Illinois

Your day-to-day job responsibilities help ensure the protection of the environment and public health. The position performs a variety of skilled maintenance repairs and modifications on equipment common to a wastewater treatment facility. The position will report to the Chief Maintenance Foreman.

To be considered for this position, applicants require a basic knowledge of industrial processes or systems similar to that of a wastewater treatment plant, which can be acquired through the completion of at least a high school diploma or equivalent work experience, a valid driver\'s license, ability to learn and utilize computer software programs used by the District, the ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within twelve months of hire.

The successful candidate must be available to respond to emergencies when necessary, will be required to work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions, properly and accurately utilize precision and diagnostic instruments to measure required tolerances of mechanical parts, demonstrate effective written and verbal skills, and maintain a clean and orderly work area. The ability to perform physical labor such as but not limited to reaching, bending, stooping, crawling, and standing for prolonged periods, normal lifting to 60 lbs. or occasionally more; possess acceptable levels of visual acuity, color, and depth perception to safely and successfully to diagnose and repair a variety of industrial/mechanical equipment systems, and machinery, such as valves, motors, pumps, actuators, and other equipment common to the wastewater treatment facility.

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of equipment and systems, as assigned, thereby ensuring continuity of operations for a safe, reliable, and efficient wastewater treatment facility.
  • Performs general maintenance work including but not limited to plumbing, heating, and cooling, painting, cleaning, groundskeeping work, vehicle maintenance, etc.
  • Assists with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical system issues common to a wastewater treatment facility.
  • Collaborates with supervisors and other District employees on the status of equipment and progress of assigned work.
  • Operates a variety of light, medium, and heavy mobile equipment related to the maintenance and repair of the Districts assets.
  • Documents field observations, work progress, job hours, and parts or materials used in Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) or Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software.
  • Performs general labor as assigned, to provide support for maintenance and operations functions.
  • Researches manufacturers literature for replacement components.
  • Communicates supply needs to Maintenance Purchasing/Inventory Clerk.
  • Works with all District employees and vendors cooperatively and professionally thereby reflecting positively on the District.
  • Complies with District personnel and safety policies.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Demonstrates proper care and respect for all District tools, vehicles, and other District property.
  • Subject to emergency call-ins, mandatory overtime, and changing shift schedules as Departmental needs require.
