Missouri Slope Laundry Aide in Bismarck, North Dakota

SHIFT: Washington St Facility

  • 7:00am - 3:30pm, 8 hours per week

Shifts may include weekend and holiday rotations.*

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:

To provide laundry services for MSLCC, including resident clothing, facility linens and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred;
  2. Experience in providing laundry services within a nursing home preferred;
  3. Must be 18 years of age or older;
  4. Must have the ability to read, understand, and write English sufficiently to follow procedures, to communicate with coworkers, and to document as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Must have the ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficient to receive instructions and successfully communicate, including providing documentation.
  2. Must work cooperatively with co-workers demonstrating a flexible and positive manner, as well as a willingness to help each other when interacting in the work environment.
  3. This position will require the ability to lift and pull up to 35 pounds 75% of an 8 hour shift and able to stand and walk 85% of an 8 hour shift. Must be able to reach, pull and bend up to 50% of an 8 hour shift. Hearing acuity to be sufficient to adequately communicate with co-workers within the environment of operating and monitoring washing and drying machines.
  4. Should be flexible and able to adapt to changes in procedures, willing to accept changes in hours and assignments as the need arises.
  5. Needs ability to organize workload to completion in accordance with established policies and procedures, including specific needs of a resident.
  6. Personal appearance must be neat and clean with good personal hygiene and must be willing to follow the established dress code.
  7. Reliability and punctuality in attendance as scheduled.
  8. Participate in warm-up exercises to reduce the risk of injury and improve job performance.
  9. Responsible to collect soiled laundry, sort and wash laundry according to procedure.
    • Transport soiled linen using large carts to laundry chutes and transfer to chute
    • Wear PPE (personal protective equipment) including aprons, gloves, masks, etc.
    • Hand washing after handling soiled laundry and before handling clean laundry.
    • Hand washing after personal use of the bathroom.
    • Disinfection of washers after each load is placed in washer.
    • Removal of dryer lint daily.
    • Clean work area flooring daily at end of shift.
    • Disinfect work tables daily.
    • Apply fire retardant spray, keeping logs current, cushions, wall-hangings, Christmas Trees, etc,
    • Work cohesively with Sewing, Supply Clerks, Nursing, Residents and Family regarding missing items.
    • Weighing soiled linens to prevent washer overload insuring proper disinfection.
    • Sort and Delivery of personal clothing to resident rooms.
    • Listen intently to resident personal clothing concerns and initiate Missing Items Report as needed.
  10. Responsible to dry, fold and iron clothing such as sheets, pillow cases, and resident personal clothing; transfer torn and lost articles to the mending room.
  11. Responsible to follow isolation precautions per Universal Precaution procedures.
  12. Must be able to transport linen in large carts extended distances to linen rooms on all the nursing units assigned and put away clean linen in proper places in a neat and orderly manner, following linen need amounts, and conveying over or understock to supervisors.
  13. Must be able to be exposed to cleaning supplies to complete cleaning duties in the laundry room including:
    • Wash and disinfect all clean and soiled laundry carts on a routine basis.
    • Maintain cleanliness in the laundry room, equipment, linen carts, floors and walls using required disinfectant.
    • Monitor chemical pumps and input in washers.
    • Change out chemical containers on washers.
  14. Responsibl to follow safe chemical practices, wearing PPE as required, and properly labeling all products in containers.
  15. Responsible to follow safe operating procedures in using equipment and products in the laundry room, including monitoring all machines and chemicals.
  16. Will be responsible to be aware of the Volunteer Protection Program (VPP) and Risk Management/Safety Program and will adhere to the established policies and procedures within the Environmental Services Department and facility wide with regards to job performance and safe operating procedures.
  17. Must maintain confidentiality of all resident information (HIPPA) and provide privacy by knocking on resident doors and waiting for a response before entering.
  18. Will be responsible to complete MSLCC on-line required course studies, thru HealthStream Learning Management System.
  19. Must demonstrate ability to problem solve and make judgement calls in urgent situations.
  20. Must demonstrate MSLCCs customer service standards of excellence.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participate in QAPI Studies, Safety Committee and Self-inspections as assigned.

WORK CONDITIONS:

A well-lighted and ventilated laundry room with commercial washers and driers, as well as regular washers; two large folding tables.
