Our Rail business designs and delivers solutions for railway infrastructure throughout the world with teams based in offices across the UK, India and Serbia. We work from early development through the entire project lifecycle and our capability encompasses single discipline renewals, nationally significant infrastructure projects and everything in between.

A bit about the role:

Our Rail Client Advisory and Engineering Services group within the Rail business is seeking a proactive client focused Project Manager to join our growing Client Engineering service. This role will be responsible for the internal commercial management of our Client Engineering projects, along with an external client focus in managing commercial and contract arrangements with our clients. In this role you will be required to understand, navigate, and support our clients in accessing the various routes to market.

In this role you will be responsible for managing the relationship with our offshore PMO organisation to facilitate the commercial management of our projects. You will support the management and hiring of contractors to fulfil our client engineering roles. You may also be required to support the recruitment of permanent resources into the growing Client Engineering service.

You will work alongside our Client Engineering Project Directors to develop relationships within our client organisations to help grow our service. In doing this you maybe required to support in tendering for opportunities.

Our Rail Client Engineering Services team helps our clients assure the railway is safe and reliable, whilst deploying resources into client engineering organisation to help solve the most complex rail transportation problems. In doing so we proactively work with our clients to continuously improve and deliver critical client engineering roles in a cost-effective way. To do so you will be expected to challenge the norm and have a drive to develop and instil the right proactive behaviours across all project resources.

A typical week would include:

As a Client Engineering Project Manager, you’ll be used to facing a wide range of technical, commercial, people and other challenges across business and project activities. The role has a series of core responsibilities which are broadly as follows:

  • Managing commercial and contractual relationship with our clients, engaging with them to ensure project performance.

  • Managing and controlling project change and contractual variations

  • Raising and managing opportunities and support the work winning process.

  • Manging the internal commercial performance of one or more projects depending on scale, proactively engaging, and managing our PMO support

  • Supporting in responding to client requests, tender enquiries, and mini competitions

  • Supporting Group Director and Client Engineering Project Directors to develop and grow the Client Engineering service.

  • Managing contingent workers

In addition, you will be passionate about people development, and support the development of advisors, engineers and leaders coming through the business.

You’ll be passionate, engaging, energetic and articulate when bringing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams together to address the range of challenges our clients face. You’ll also understand the importance of implementing robust systems and processes to ensure that our bid and projects deliver value for money in achieving client goals and requirements as well as and cost and programme targets.

  • Experience in people management and development.

  • A natural eye for detail, with a drive to ensure quality in everything we do.

  • A professionally qualified engineering or PM background
