Job Description:

This position is responsible for providing both basic and advanced life support to patients in an efficient, knowledgeable and cost effective manner, which is accurately documented and properly coordinated with other health care personnel.

  • Performs primary assessment on each patient attended in the field, demonstrates the ability to recognize impaired airway, breathing,

  • circulation, and takes appropriate action to resolve problems Performs secondary assessment head to toe and is able to accurately evaluate

  • injuries in a timely manner and responds appropriately. Understands the principles of immobilization and uses equipment properly. Operates

  • the heart monitor and the defibrillator appropriately.

  • Replaces supplies when needed, after each call or during shift. Checks functioning and safety of all equipment. Uses supplies efficiently. In

  • addition, makes appropriate charges to patients for supplies and equipment when used. Cleans front and back of ambulance after each call

  • and before ending shift.

  • Completes computer EMS reports correctly and in a timely manner.

  • Responsible to log all ambulance calls in logbook and file appropriately.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful Completion of EMT Basic Course

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers

  • Current valid driver license in good standing

Preferred Qualifications

  • State Certification to practice as an EMT Basic

  • EMT National Registry Certification

  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

  • Attendance License (Before start of employment)

  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification (for AEMT's only; must obtain within 1 years of hire and maintain throughout employment).

  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (for AEMT's only; must obtain within 1 years of hire and maintain throughout employment).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$18.12 - $23.55
