Job Summary:

The Fab Lab technician is responsible for the training of Fab Lab participants and supervises open lab times as needed. Additionally, the technician is responsible for some general lab oversight; including set-up, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Greets Fab Lab participants and answers questions.
  2. Performs tours and provides orientations to prospective Fab Lab participants.
  3. Monitors and manages reservations via phone/email for Fab Lab equipment usage.
  4. Monitors Fab Lab safety and ensures safe operation of Fab Lab equipment.
  5. Assists Fab Lab participants with file preparation, equipment usage, design questions and general trouble shooting.
  6. Actively engages Fab Lab participants on projects.
  7. Assists in shop promotion such as signage, displays, organization, information and project research.
  8. Instructs safety orientations to Fab Lab participants.
  9. Maintains, repairs equipment (if able) and ensures all equipment calibration is performed as needed.
  10. Advises Fab Lab Manager on equipment updates, supply needs and shop orders.
  11. Works with and monitors Fab Lab volunteers. 

Other Duties:

  1. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Accountabilities:

Under the direct supervision of the director, Extended Education, the Fab Lab Tech provides support to students, staff and faculty, and community members. Serves as the point of contact for all Fab Lab participants' and assists the Fab Lab Manager in maintaining a safe, clean environment. 

Job Specifications:

Knowledge of fabrication, technical repair, design software and computer skills; desktop publishing and presentation software skills preferred. Attention to detail, good analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. Light lifting required. 

Grade:

Salary Range: $14-$18/hr
