Overview
Come and join our team! The Vermont Department of Health\'s Bennington District Office has an opening for a dynamic Nutrition Assistant to join our interdisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of Vermonters in Bennington County. This position is an opportunity to work with clients and community partners in direct support of the Women Infants and Children (WIC) program. This is a nutrition education and clerical position that advances our mission: To protect and promote the best health for all Vermonters. The successful candidate will:
Work one on one with WIC participants by providing certification services that include nutrition education and support
Use motivational interviewing and problem-solving skills to resolve nutrition-related questions from participants and community partners
Provide clerical duties that support the enrollment, recruitment, and retention of WIC participants and overall office operations
Participate in programmatic and office wide initiatives such as breastfeeding, lead screening, and emergency preparedness
Assist with the procurement and planning of nutrition education activities specific to maternal and child health nutrition and health promotion
This position will be fully in-office during the training period and then the opportunity to explore telework with their Supervisor.

Environmental Factors
Duties primarily performed in District Office settings or in outlying service sites.
Travel to outlying sites will require a driver\'s license. Private means of transportation may be req uired.
Occasional travel to statewide trainings required. Potential travel in difficult weather conditions.
There is considerable interaction with staff, clients, community partners, providers and the general public. At times of public health emergencies (floods, infectious disease outbreaks, etc.) individuals may be expected to assist. Physical demands vary with the position; generally limited to carrying equipment needed to conduct clinic and education activities. Employees work with a variety of clients and may have contact with potentially dangerous and combative individuals as well as a wide variety of illnesses and diseases. Certain functions may require duty outside of normal work hours.
