Peckham Inc. - Community Engagement Specialist - Battle Creek
POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Engagement Specialist recruits individuals with disabilities, including Veterans, for Team Member positions supporting our Contact Center Solutions contracts at the Battle Creek location and other Peckham locations as needed. This role builds and maintains relationships with community agencies, vocational rehabilitation organizations, and other partners to source qualified candidates.
Key responsibilities include full-cycle recruitment—posting jobs, sourcing, interviewing, and managing pre-hire requirements. The specialist also ensures Veterans receive priority consideration and works to facilitate their successful employment. Collaboration with internal teams is essential to streamline hiring and promote inclusive workforce opportunities."
This role is onsite in Battle Creek. Travel to Lansing will be necessary until candidate has obtained their federal clearance.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruit and source for Team Member positions across various Peckham’s business lines.
Work with Operations staff to post team member job openings at Peckham and community locations.
Attend career fairs and assist in networking with community partners.
Initiate, develop, and maintain relationships with referral sources and partnering community agencies and organizations.
Collaborate with Eligibility staff, Vocational Services staff, Training staff and Operations on to ensure candidate experiences flow well.
Review team member applications, conduct pre-screening activities, and schedule interviews with individuals interested in employment.
Contribute to the strategic direction of the department with leadership by assisting in team goal development, supporting process improvements, and aligning hiring strategies with organizational goals.
Administer background checks to ensure candidates meet requirements of Peckham.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with applicants to determine their strengths, interests, functional limitations, and potential utilization of Assistive Technology and other job accommodations (support function).
Connect with new hires to ensure a positive and meaningful start to their employment with Peckham.
Facilitate upward mobility hiring interviews.
Foster public relations to enhance current and future community partnerships.
Act as referral agent to community service agencies as appropriate
Follow all Peckham policies and procedures for hiring
Stay up to date on and follow all legal requirements for job postings and hiring
Promote Peckham’s vision, values, and services to all customers and stakeholders
Assist in maintaining organization wide quality standards
Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel) desired
Maintain a safe and clean work environment
Other related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED
1-2 years’ experience of recruiting or related experience
or a combination of experience and education/training
Experience working with or supporting Veteran population.
Experience building and maintaining community partnerships
Ability to obtain Federal security clearance
Ability to travel weekly to meet business needs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in a related field
3 years of experience recruiting
Experience working in the Human Services or Human Resources field
Experience using Workday Recruiting functions
Bilingual in Spanish/English

TRAVEL
This position requires frequent (weekly) intrastate travel. Locations include but are not limited to Metro Detroit, Grand Rapids, Battle Creek and Flint, Michigan.
