This very active position will provide Occupational Safety compliance and hazard assessment support to all Agency of Transportation employees in the Southeastern Region of Vermont. This position will require extensive knowledge of Occupational Safety standards in both the General Industry as well as Construction and will perform field work in a variety of outdoor and office environments as well as technical research and writing. This position works closely with employees, Agency leadership and VOSHA, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
This position has the option for a hybrid office/work from home and flex schedule to accommodate occasional night work. Generally, work hours are from 7:00am to 3:30pm.
As of July 14, 2024 the step 1 rate for pay grade 25 will be \$29.87 per hour.
Environmental Factors
Duties are typically performed at buildings, projects or worksites, both indoors and outdoors, with some office work expected. Incumbent performs building, project worksite visits, walks for long periods of time, climbs ladders to reach catwalks, platforms and scaffolds, enters confined spaces such as excavation sites or uses other means to observe all potential dangerous working conditions. Exposure to hazards and hazardous materials associated with projects and other worksite activities can be anticipated. Exposure to all weather conditions and worksite hazards is common, involving noise, odor, dirt, dust, dampness, and to noxious chemicals, fumes, and materials. Incumbent may encounter strong opinions and adversarial situations. Serves as a consultant and change agent in emergency situations where strong critical thinking and communication skills are required to a variety of individuals to include but not limited to inside and outside of the Agency, state government, municipalities, regulatory compliance officers and political officials. Traversing on rough terrain, working in cramped and poorly ventilated areas, as well as exposure to heavy operating equipment can be anticipated. Incumbent is expected to walk, bend and reach for extended periods, have the ability to climb tall ladders, and bend or stoop in confined spaces. Some jobs require an employee to work on high structures. Some field work may require the employee to work where there is a significant chance of injury and to work in tunnels and crawl spaces.
