Johns Hopkins University Research Assistant/Field Interviewer in Baltimore, Maryland
The Health Behavior & Society is seeking candidates to work as a Research Assistant/Field Interviewer , who will assist Field Supervisors with data collection for the SHOUT (Sustained Harm Reduction Outreach) study. The Field Interviewer will facilitate study visits (recruit, screen, consent and interview study participants) in several Baltimore communities on a mobile RV. Interviewers will assist Field Supervisors with stocking and organizing interview materials and cleaning the van at the end of shifts. They will provide in-office assistance as needed.
Job Description & General Duties
In partnership with SPARC, a women’s center in Baltimore, SHOUT aims to expand and evaluate SPARC’s mobile harm reduction outreach program. SHOUT will evaluate the impact of SPARC’s mobile outreach expansion on overdose and other substance use outcomes by recruiting N=400 women who use drugs and following them over 18 months.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Joining a team on data collection shifts (4-5 hours per shift, weekdays only) on a mobile data collection van.
Screening, consenting, and administering surveys to participants.
Assisting the field manager with administrative tasks (e.g., uploading survey data, tracking eligible participants in the spreadsheet).
Additional
Field interviewers are expected to work at least 3 shifts per month (more is preferred).
Data collection shifts are scheduled monthly and account for individuals’ availability.
Data collection is ongoing, and the applicants are expected to begin as soon as possible in September.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with harm reduction or working with vulnerable populations.
Prior experience and interest in interfacing with marginalized populations.
Obtain attributes including cultural competency, empath and compassion.
Ability to be flexible and eager to take on multiple tasks potentially across projects.
Experience conducting advanced epidemiological and statistical analyses (public health data) in Stata.
Ability to work with the team.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication skills.
Prior community health work experience.
