Job Description

Role Overview

The Timing business unit at Skyworks creates high-performance clock, oscillator, and network synchronization products for 5G infrastructure, optical networking, and data center markets. These devices are found in every digital and mixed-signal product made today, as they provide the clocks necessary for products ranging from consumer devices to long-haul communication networks.

Join our enthusiastic, collaborative timing customer applications engineering team. Our team is focused on helping customers design in timing jitter attenuator and network synchronization products that are designed into high-speed, high-performance clock designs. We work closely with world-wide customers and various internal teams such as marketing, systems, design, quality, and test to ensure our products are well understood and designed-in successfully. We are committed to doing the right thing, and we are passionate about helping our customers solve timing problems by understanding their use-cases and end applications. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with exceptional communication skills who are comfortable explaining technical concepts to a wide range of audiences.

This position will be based in Austin, Texas

In this position, you will:

  • Provide direct technical assistance to customers, helping them answer their device and system level questions.

  • Assist the sales team with technical specifications of our devices during design-in activities.

  • Train sales representatives and field applications engineers on our products and solutions

  • Design, debug, and document customer evaluation boards. 

  • Validate technical details of specific use case scenarios ensuring device firmware, hardware and software meets the expected end performance.

  • Debug, test, document and share results of enhanced features in existing or future products.

  • Develop launch collateral for new products such as compliance testing reports, reference testing recommendations, reference manual materials, application notes, and FAQ documents.

Qualifications

For this role, you need:

6+ years work experience with a BS/MS in electrical, computer or systems design engineering

Knowledge of synchronous timing principles and clock performance metrics

An understanding of analog and digital electronics (PLL experience preferred).

A positive attitude with a strong desire for customer and team success

Knowledge of proper and effective use of lab test equipment (Oscilloscopes, Spectrum andPhase Noise Analyzers)

Experience with schematic capture and PCB Design.

Knowledge of software programming tools (Visual Studio, Python or other scripting languages).

Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and methodologies

Excellent written and verbal presentation skills. 

System analysis skills, and the ability to see the bigger picture. 

Excellent ability to ask the right questions to troubleshoot circuits, and other hardware

Strong customer based interpersonal skills. 

Meticulous technical documentation authoring and editing skills. 

Must be comfortable working on challenging problems while being capable of prioritizing and organizing tasks.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $110,600 - $210,600 per year . Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
