Job Description

Summary:

The Senior Design Project Manager position is responsible for developing the store in all Design aspects. Manages and coordinates the design process after the lease has been signed through the total duration of project. This position resides in any Regional Office or approved Remote Office within Whole Foods Market and will report directly to the Senior Team Leader, Décor and Design Project Management.

This role is based in Austin, TX or within one of our Operational Area offices with an expectation of being in the office or field five days a week

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and leads large-scale projects from end-to-end.

  • Responsible for selection of Architects and Engineers working on a selected project.

  • Oversee Landlord Coordination with LL (Landlords) Design Development Plan (DDP) and Shell Construction Documents to ensure Whole Foods Markets needs are being addressed and captured.

  • Support on design and approval of Exterior Finishes and Signage. And manage the approval process with the correct parties.

  • Leads in store and fixture design to create the design strategy and concepts for new stores.

  • Understands and knows where to find Overall Project Budget, Store Weekly Sales, and Designs within those two parameters.

  • Oversees project communication, project schedule, timelines, scope, budget, and quality control.

  • Responsible for the interior Elevation Design, Soffit Design, and Material selection and use in not only the Sales Floor but also in the Back of House Spaces.

  • Partners with Decor Deck Design Vendors to work on the interior signage for the store.

  • Partners with the equipment team members to ensure effective coordination on project scope.

  • Oversee and Coordinate Millwork Vendor selection, review designs, and approve shop drawings.

  • Oversee and Coordinate Furniture Vendor on selection of Front of House and Back of House furniture, review and approve design/cut sheets to ensure it meets commercial standards.

  • Implements and adheres to Design Directives when working on a project.

  • Works with Store Development Team to meet project expectations, deliverables, and timelines.

  • Coordinate with Asset Protection and IT on design integration for both teams.

  • Partner with Food Safety on design impacts based on project location requirements or special codes.

  • Provides documentation to communicate progress to relevant stakeholders.

  • Attend Leadership Meetings with relevant stakeholders to present plans, elevations, finishes, and decor to share design.

  • Research new or existing market environments, local competitors, and demographics in developing market-specific designs.

  • Study and share potential innovations that could occur at a store to help promote sales or enhance customer experience.

  • Manages architect, vendor, and general contractor coordination to maintain project schedules, budgets, and brand identity.

  • Works with construction stakeholders to resolve complex décor and design challenges by providing technical guidance and innovative solutions.

  • Assists in plan reviews, participates in review meetings, and provides mark-ups to architectural and engineering plans for design scope.

  • Fosters positive and collaborative relationships with vendor partners while holding them accountable for deliverables.

  • Coordinates onsite design changes with construction teams for approval and integration into fixture plans.

  • Routinely performs on-site inspections of new stores during TI construction.

  • Ensures effective and timely communication with Operational Area, Support Teams, Leadership, and Consultants.

  • Manage installations of Millwork, Decor, and Furniture to ensure it meets our standards and is not only executed correctly but installed correctly.

  • Oversee and ensure that stay within budget on all Design Budget Codes. And once project has been successfully opened start working on Purchase Order Close-out

Professional Knowledge:

  • Advanced understanding of Design project management methodologies and requirements.

  • Advanced ability to plan, estimate, organize, and monitor projects.

  • Ability to oversee and advise on project management issues and assist with overcoming barriers.

  • Ability to keep multiple projects on track financially, creatively, and in accordance with stakeholder deadlines.

  • Advanced knowledge of Auto-Cad, Bluebeam, Sketch-up, Excel.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills:

  • Communicates structured information in a clear, concise, and organized fashion.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in both one-on-one situations and group meetings.

  • Collaborates with others to achieve objectives and ensure information flow.

Teamwork & Collaboration:

  • Participates in and provides support to team and cross-functional projects.

  • May provide informal support to less experienced Team Members.

Organization & Industry Acumen:

  • Understands customer, market, and industry trends and emerging challenges.

  • Applies business and project understanding to focus project/ team efforts

  • Demonstrates exceptional knowledge of the WFM product mix, supply base, and retail operations.

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS degree and 4-6 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
