ABOUT THE Division General descriptionWe are looking for an IT professional specializing in Mainframe z/OS systems programming. The team you would be joining consists of senior level z/OS system programmers, who install and maintain z/OS system software and 3rd party software. Your day-to-day may involve installing and testing mainframe software, working with teammates to ensure our mainframe is operating at peak performance, meeting with developers and other teammates to resolve issues, meeting with coworkers on mainframe topics, monitoring daily on-line mainframe system usage and usage during load tests, working incident tickets, and opening tickets for installing software. This position is part of a team of people who are research oriented, open-minded, collaborative, adaptable, mainframe centric, and like to dig into issues. You would be a great fit for this role if you are self-motivated, a problem solver, resourceful, a good communicator, can work well with a team, and enjoys learning new technical advancements as it relates to our environment. Work Hours Works hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM, 40-hour week, Monday Friday. Occasionally will work additional hours including weekends and holidays. Performs rotating on-call duties related to mainframe storage software and hardware support (24 x 7). Hours may change based on business need. Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3 days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Six (6) years of experience researching and reporting on system and/or application performance within a mainframe z/OS environment, within the last 10 years. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field. Experience with z/OS Db2, SQL and EXPLAINS to analyze SQL Experience with CICS 4.2 or higher in a z/OS environment Experience with Systems Software Experience with orkload Manager (WLM) Experience with Mainframe Change Control products (BMCs ISPW or equivalent) Experience with SAS and MXG Experience with utility programs and products including: IDCAMS, CLISTS/REXX, SORT, TSO, JCL Documenting and teaching technical issues. Substitution One (1) additional year of experience with z/OS, DB2, or CICS within a z/OS environment may substitute for thirty (30) semester hours of educational requirement with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years). SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication. In this role you will: Responsible for IBM mainframe Performance and Capacity Planning duties. This includes: o Provides technical support for users and mainframe application developers for performance related issues and recommends coding solutions or application design changes to solve the business problem or meet the business need, while emphasizing efficient coding practices o Researches performance related problems and suggests solutions o Reviews the mainframe system components and advises on Work Level Management (WLM) component priority management o Coordinates mainframe application developers to analyze applications for performance improvements. o Reviews mainframe batch schedules to suggest improvements in workload balancing, including application redesigns o Studies the impact of new systems or code changes to the mainframe system. o Proactively monitors job performance and performs analysis to determine reason for long running jobs. Suggests technical solutions for improving performance. o Provides projected mainframe capacity studies for new mainframes and/or capacity increases. Coordinates studies and the preparation of reports that include study findings, recommendations, and instructions for proposed system implementations; formulates logical descriptions of problems; and devises and implements optimum solutions. Provides utilization, performance reports and other reports as requested to management. Designs, writes, runs, and maintains monthly CPU utilization reports utilizing SMF records and/or MXG records. Manages work activities for short and long range mainframe related assignments, communicating with management and other team members in a timely and effective manner. And performs other related duties as assigned. Plans, installs, maintains, upgrades and administers MXG, a 3rd party mainframe product and provides documentation for all software changes for that product. Participates in and performs mainframe disaster recovery activities
