The Azure Kubernetes Service team is creating a world-class container management and orchestration services for the cloud and beyond. We are the team working on container solutions for Azure on both Linux and Windows.

Our charter is to define the next generation of cloud-native infrastructure on Azure. We are looking for Software Engineers who are excited about containers, and container orchestration with Kubernetes, who also has a passion for building DevOps tools that make it easier for people to build, deploy and scale their software on the Azure cloud. Our team members are in locations of multiple countries and continents.

As a Software Engineer, Azure Kubernetes Service in this position, you will do deep technical work, focusing on enhancing Kubernetes to support running workloads in large scale on AKS. The work for this position focuses on developing infrastructure controllers, onboarding Kubernetes features, integrating with other azure services, and building foundations to support Kubernetes clusters in large scale. Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer, Azure Kubernetes Service you will:

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.

  • Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.

  • With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.

  • Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.

  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, golang, bash, or other backend programming languages.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in commercial software development

  • Experience in building, shipping and operating reliable, distributed solutions

  • Experience with containers and Kubernetes.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestrators, linux or windows networking, cilium, and golang are all greatly preferred but not required.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
