Momar is looking for a new Safety Specialist l!
Momar, Inc., a privately owned, specialty chemical manufacturing company based in Atlanta, GA, is seeking a Safety Specialist l to join the Momar family.Reporting to the Health and Safety Director, the Safety Specialist I is responsible for managing the company's safety programs, involving coordination of compliance activities and implementation of measures to prevent incidents and ensure regulatory adherence.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive safety orientations for new hires, ensuring they are aware of safety protocols and procedures.
- Implement and manage a near miss reporting program to identify and address potential safety hazards proactively.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to manage work orders and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Oversee the incident response and conduct investigations and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for transfer trucks.
- Implement and maintain compliance programs for powered industrial trucks.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the facility, identifying and addressing potential safety concerns.
- Participate in and assist with follow-ups from the annual hazard identification/risk assessment process for Atlanta facility roles.
- Conduct annual noise surveys.
- Update lists of lead-containing and asbestos-containing materials annually, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct annual reviews of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labeling compliance internally.
- Oversee annual third-party checks for safety systems, including fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and fire doors.
- Conduct annual reviews and drills of the emergency action plan, ensuring readiness for various emergency scenarios.
- Update and inspect LOTO procedures annually, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain safety signs and markings throughout the plant, ensuring visibility and adherence to safety protocols.
- Manage recurrent health checks, including respirator fit tests, audiograms, and other health assessments as required.
- Collaborate with contractors on-site, ensuring they adhere to safety protocols and meet regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, including prioritization and follow through.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- 3 years of experience in a safety or operations role for a manufacturing, chemical, or industrial company is preferred.
- OSH degree or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to lift and/or move up to50 lbs.unassisted.
- The ability to wear personal protective gear,including a respirator (clean-shaven requirement).
- The ability to work in low and/or high temperatures.
- The ability to work in a noisy environment.
- The ability to climb ladders or work at heights.
