Osmose Utilities Services Safety Manager Underground Operations in Atlanta, Georgia

SUMMARY

As part of a growing company and safety team, the Safety Manager for Underground Operations will be responsible for development and implementation of safety policies, programs, procedures, training, and site safety plans related to underground utility services performed by qualified persons (qualified non-electrical workers and qualified electrical workers)—in compliance with regulatory requirements, customer requirements, and industry best practices.

The Safety Manger will work collaboratively with field management and crews to ensure safety polices, programs, plans, and procedures are implemented, understood, and properly and consistently executed by operations personnel.

The position requires excellent communication, inter-personal, teamwork, project management, and computer skills, and requires travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Related to underground operations:

· Ensure hazard and risk assessment and control measures are in place, utilized, and effective; address risks and safety concerns; improve safety performance; identify and share best practices.

· Advise, mentor, and assist field operations personnel with company, customer, and regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

· Design training plans, develop content, and coordinate and assist with delivery of training for work performed by qualified persons (qualified non-electrical workers and qualified electrical workers).

· Conduct and document safety inspections and audits; provide field operations personnel with on-the-spot constructive feedback and coaching to improve knowledge, understanding, behaviors, and performance.

· Review new projects and services to identify hazards, recommend and design controls, and develop project and/or site safety plans.

· Review and provide responses to customer RFPs; review executed contracts to ensure customer requirements and specifications related to safety are identified, properly communicated, and will be met

· Lead or participate in investigations into safety-related incidents, including the development and closure of corrective and preventive actions.

· Monitor safety performance metrics and trends (leading and lagging indicators) and recommend and support corrective actions to improve.

As part of the safety team:

· Assist with the communication, implementation, review, and oversight of safety-related policies, programs, and procedures.

· Assist with development and delivery of safety-related communications and training (alerts, bulletins, meetings, presentations, videos, etc.)

· Conduct incident investigations, workplace inspections, and program audits.

· Represent and support Operations and Safety during customer visits and meetings.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Associate’s (two-year) degree; bachelor's degree preferred

· Five (5) or more years of utility industry experience, preferably in power transmission and distribution, including underground

· Three (3) to five (5) years of safety experience, which includes responsibilities for writing safety policies, programs, and procedures and developing and delivering safety training to employees

· Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification preferred.

· Detailed knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulatory requirements

· Valid state driver’s license

· Exceptional computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams

· Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to speak clearly and confidently to employees, supervisors, management, and customers. Must be able to write using proper spelling, grammar, and style.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The position may also require the employee to occasionally bend, crouch, kneel, squat, stoop, reach, lift up to 25 pounds, utilize hand and power tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, drill), and work with or around chemicals (including pesticides).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position requires working in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, freezing temperatures, uneven terrain, and exposure to poisonous plants, insects, animals, and allergens. The position may also require entry into confined or enclosed spaces. The employee may also be exposed to chemicals (e.g., pesticides, coatings), energized electrical equipment, and noise exceeding 85 decibels.

TRAVEL:

Position requires nationwide (and possibly international) overnight travel, ranging from 25% to 75%
