Ohio University Building Automation Systems Technician 2 in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

Under general direction of a lead worker or supervision by departmental administrator performs highly skilled installation, repair, & preventive maintenance on HVAC system controls; periodically inspects operation of equipment. Provides work direction, training and mentoring of lower-level air quality technicians and/or other trades workers performing craft duties.

  • Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines.

  • Provides work direction, training & mentoring of lower-level air quality technicians and/or trade workers performing craft duties.

  • Repairs air conditioning, refrigeration & heating systems, thermostats, relays, valves, controls, compressors & filters; solders piping as necessary.

  • Periodically inspects & tests installed equipment for proper assembly of components, checking for any needed repairs & compliance with technical orders, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, specifications, handbooks, laptops (with the appropriated software), & established procedures; troubleshoots system to solve problems.

  • Installs & operates refrigeration, air conditioning & heating units.

  • Installs, repairs, calibrates & troubleshoots pneumatic, electric, electronic, & DDC controls; verifies proper installation & operation using diagrams & schematics; generates new documentation, suggests & makes required modifications to systems as needed.

  • Performs inventory control, work scheduling & completes necessary documentation. Uses computerized maintenance management system ( CMMS ).

  • Repairs, maintains and installs air compressors.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of employee mentoring, training and development; inventory control. Journey-level working knowledge of air conditioning & heating technology.

  • Installation and maintenance of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and controls equipment;

  • Ability to interpret variety of technical material in books, journals and manuals, and laptop computers (with appropriate software);

  • Ability to read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure;

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals & percentages;

  • Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems;

  • Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and pictorial form;

  • Work independently or with others;

  • Demonstrated willingness to work with diverse populations;

  • Demonstrate dexterity and skill in use of craft-associated hand and/or power tools & equipment;

  • Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University safety guidelines and procedures;

  • Ability to work at heights;

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.;

  • An established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.

Training & Experience:

  • 48 months skilled experience in air conditioning and heating technology, or equivalent;

  • Successful completion of any pertinent tests may be required;

  • Valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • May be exposed to dirt, grease, odors, cramped conditions, extreme hot or cold temperatures, heights, and electrical hazards; may be exposed to dangerous machinery; confined spaces.
