Position summary:

The Head of Medical Greece & CEE Oncology Lead is a pivotal role that carries strategic authority and responsibility in leading medical teams, fostering disease area expertise, and preserving compliance standards within the organization. This role requires a high level of professional integrity and strategic planning capabilities as it provides medical expertise to create strategies, perform medical planning for medical activities in the country and dedicated disease area, and ensures the execution of culture, practices, and standards that align with our organization's goals and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Country Lead:

  • Leading medical processes in the country; top priority for the role

  • Manage Medical resource allocation and budget in the country.

  • Facilitate the cross-functional collaboration and strengthen the medical contribution.

  • Represents country medical as a key member in relevant forums.

  • Build country reputation and visibility at the international level in BMS as well as in the local external environment in collaboration with the CEE TA Leads and country leadership.

  • Support local study initiatives of both external (e.g. ISRs) and internal (e.g. RWD) origin through global approval and budget process.

  • Manage unexpected events or issues, e.g. the early close of a study, out of stock situations, recall, safety signal in the market etc., in collaboration with relevant Medical Head of TA as needed.

Therapeutic Area Lead:

  • Leading medical work across the CEE within the assigned TA.

  • Facilitate the cross-functional collaboration in the TA and strengthen the medical contribution.

  • Setting the foundation for medical affairs plan and resources, ensuring needs assessment is clearly communicated to CEE_LT.

  • Point of contact for regional/global medical within assigned TA and represent medical in the CEE TA cross-functional LT.

  • Contribute to RCO/Clinical trial strategy for the CEE in the TA and ensure medical support to the RCO studies as appropriate and in line with SOPs.

  • Manage external communications in TA when safety issues arise in collaboration with country medical lead.

People Performance Developer:

  • Coaches, mentors, and conducts performance reviews with direct reports and contributes to talent identification and development.

  • Promotes a culture of performance, innovation, constructive challenge, team spirit and accountability.

Shaper of External Environment & Disease Area Reference Point:

  • Establishes effective relationships with external stakeholders such as academia, healthcare providers and government bodies.

  • Actively represents BMS as a lead of TA to external stakeholders.

  • Keeps direct contact with top thought leaders in TA to gather insight on disease area and foster strong peer-to-peer scientific partnerships.

Compliance and Medical Governance:

  • Ensures compliance with regulations and standards within medical, acts as a role model for ethical and professional behavior.

  • Collaborate with CEE Medical Director to build effective and efficient working practices.

  • Actively participate as a member of the CEE Medical Leadership Team and the country operating committee.

Qualifications & Experience:

Requirement for the role:

  • Science graduate e.g. Medical doctor, Pharmacist or PhD in Life Sciences with relevant pharmaceutical experience.

  • Line management experience min. 3 years.

  • Pharma industry experience including medical affairs min. 10 years.

  • Good knowledge on processes and procedures for clinical trials across different phases of development.

  • Expert knowledge of country regulations. Knowledge of common compliance issues within a Medical organization and how to resolve them.

  • Proficiency in the local language at a native level.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Additional skills:

  • Working across and building effective relationships between Medical, Commercial, Access, Clinical Operations, and Regulatory departments.

  • Conducting complex negotiations within a pharmaceutical environment.

  • Understanding key marketing and market research terms and modes of analysis.

  • Advanced project management techniques, particularly setting SMART goals that are aligned with CEE, Country, and HQ strategy, budgeting, and reporting.
