About our opportunity:

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Facility Attendant in the Capital Management department. Capital Management is responsible for maintaining and improving the City's infrastructure and facilities, ensuring they remain safe, clean, and functional for employees and the public.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Perform custodial duties in assigned buildings, facilities, and grounds, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and shampooing carpets and floors.

  • Clean, dust, and polish furniture, equipment, artwork, fixtures, and surfaces.

  • Sanitize and disinfect restrooms, including mirrors, toilets, urinals, sinks, and other areas; replenish soap and paper products as needed.

  • Empty and replace trash and recycling containers; transport waste to designated disposal areas.

  • Maintain building security by locking/unlocking doors, turning off unused equipment, and managing alarm systems.

  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, carpet cleaners, and buffing machines.

  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and request replacements as necessary.

  • Communicate with supervisors and other employees to coordinate tasks and ensure facility upkeep.

  • Complete and process work-related documentation, including checklists, inventory logs, and reports.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Benefits:

  • Salary: $19.40 Hourly

    About you:

    We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:

  • One year of work experience that demonstrates the ability to maintain steady employment in any field, OR

  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

    Performance aptitudes:

  • Data Utilization: Ability to record and transcribe data accurately following established procedures.

  • Human Interaction: Ability to exchange information effectively and clarify details within well-established policies.

  • Physical Requirements: This position involves frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and operating cleaning equipment.

    Other things to know:

  • Work Schedule: Mon-Fri schedule 8 hour shifts dependent on staffing needs between the hours 8am - 5:30pm.
