U.S. Coast Guard PIPEFITTER WORKER in Anne Arundel County, Maryland
Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Mechanical Group in Baltimore, MD. Responsibilities Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable member of the team. Typical duties include: Performing routine and common tasks following clear-cut instructions such as work orders, blueprints, bills of materials, and sketches. Laying out routine projects, taking measurements, and making templates, jigs and fixtures. Performing routine pipefitting tasks such as fabricating, installing, modifying, repairing and testing of piping and tubing made from iron, steel, brass, metal, copper, copper-nickel, stainless steel, and plastic. Using a variety of equipment and tools such as power hacksaws, power band saws, hydraulic pipe benders, grinding and drilling machines, pipe threading machines, test pumps, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation. This is a Bargaining Unit position. Selectee subject to successful completion of pre-employment medical exam. NOTE: Qualifications Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1) Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. SCREENOUT 2) Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 3) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. 4) Measuring and Layout 5) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment 6) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) 7) Troubleshooting National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
