About the Bard Early Colleges

Through a tuition-free, engaging college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, the Bard Early Colleges help high school students, particularly those at risk of not completing post-secondary education, access, afford, and complete college prepared to contribute to the workforce and civic life. Students are taught by college faculty in seminar classes; they receive up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma. The Bard Early Colleges begin preparing students for college work as early as the 9th grade and offer ongoing guidance and academic supports. Now in its second decade, the Bard Early College network serves nearly 3,300 students in five states and in the District of Columbia. Since 2003, Bard College has awarded more than 5,500 A.A. degrees to its early college students.

Bard High School Early College DC (Bard DC), a partnership between Bard College and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), invites applications for a full-time Librarian.

Position Duties

  • Oversees the operation of the library and promotes an atmosphere conducive to study, research, and reading;

  • Develops and implements an ongoing collection development and evaluation planning process that focuses on a variety of formats and resources to meet diverse learning needs;

  • Evaluates and selects resources that build a collection addressing curricular needs and learning goals in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students;

  • Assumes primary responsibility for cataloging print and non-print materials;

  • Plans and works collaboratively with faculty to use appropriate resources that address curricular needs and learning goals;

  • Instructs students and staff in the effective use of the library, its resources, and the current technologies necessary to access the resources and information;

  • Works with the school leadership team to provide flexible access to library resources to accommodate individuals and groups;

  • Supervises student study periods as needed;

  • Prepares and submits accurate reports as required.

Start Date: August 2024

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (required)

  • Interest in working with urban students

  • Strong organizational and communication experience

  • Approved program requirements must be met to qualify for K-12 School Library Media Specialist certification in Washington, DC.
