Bard College’sMBA in Sustainability (gps.bard.edu/academics/mba-in-sustainability) has an opening for a part-time, 20-hour per week Event Coordinator. The position supports onsite operations for the MBA program during our four-day weekend intensive residencies in NYC, once each month, while assisting with administrative tasks leading up to the residency weekend. In addition, the Coordinator works with the MBA marketing team to produce and promote once-monthly NYC evening events focused on business sustainability.

Over the once-monthly residency weekends (residency weekend dates can be foundhere (https://gps.bard.edu/academics/mba-in-sustainability) ), the Event Coordinator begins work Thursday evening with set-up, and then works 8 to 10 hours per day for the next three to four days, ending with take-down on Monday evening In addition, the Coordinator works 40 to 50 hours each month remotely on event planning, production and promotion. The position is thus 80 hours per month with 30 to 40 hours concentrated in the one weekend.

Tasks at the residency include leading the set-up and take-down of classrooms and meeting rooms; technology setup and trouble-shooting; managing catering; room pick-up and garbage and recycling management; interfacing with the property manager as needed on repairs or other issues; ensuring building security; and responding promptly and courteously to student and faculty concerns relating to operations.

Tasks related to event planning, production and promotion may include: managing registration systems, reserving spaces, catering orders, day-of set-up and take-down, general support during events, attending occasional NYC area sustainability networking events, researching and scheduling speakers, and working with the MBA marketing team to develop communications plans to promote events.

Weekend residencies are held in Brooklyn (Dumbo) nine times each year, and then at the Bard campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY one time each year. Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • The ability to relate to a broad range of constituents (students, faculty, visitors, property managers, etc.)

  • An aptitude for project management

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively

  • Willingness to learn and troubleshoot classroom tech

  • Customer centric focus

  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships

  • Event management experience is preferred

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The position requires the ability to work one extended weekend each month, including both Friday and Monday, all day. Additionally, candidates must be able and willing to lift and transport up to 40 pounds.

Compensation:$22-24/hour

This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting.
