Job Description Summary

Plan, organize, and execute plant design/drafting functions for the Plant Engineering Department.

Job Description

  • Plan, develop, and design layouts of processing lines and other plant modifications. Works from design specifications, engineer\'s directions or sketches, or other limited information where designs are not established.
  • Make necessary calculations to establish electrical and mechanical clearances.
  • Calculate loads, on beams, columns, balcony loads, and similar items.
  • Modify designs of existing lines to achieve simplicity and efficiency in manufacturing processes.
  • Assume responsibility for complete accurate drawings and present recommendations to Engineering Manager.
  • Prepare bills of materials, material cost estimates, and equipment specifications.
  • Assist Engineering Manager or Project Engineer with capital projects by monitoring their progress, compliance with standards, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist with implementation and control of capital budget as directed.
  • Assist with 5-year capital plan: preparation, organization and presentation
  • Maintains all drawings
  • Initiate building permit requests with city and county officials to obtain application approval.
  • Keep abreast of state-of-the-art technology and equipment and make recommendations for the purchase when justified.
  • Requires working knowledge of company safety policies, fire protection policies, building codes, regulations, and corporate requirements to ensure conformance with these regulations.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of technical training in drafting, strength of materials.
  • Three to five years\' experience including three years as detail draftsman and one year using computer aided drafting equipment.
  • Experience preferably in a frozen potato manufacturing environment.
