Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. About the Lead SCADA Engineer Position

The Lead SCADA Engineer serve as the leading member of the SCADA team, by steering the decisions for and actions within CPC Enterprise SCADA system to optimal performance and utilization. The Lead SCADA Engineer will have profound and extensive experience in the administration, management, growth, and expansion of a liquid pipeline SCADA system. These actions include, but are not limited to, PLC (or other device) configuration, custom tools/applications, server maintenance, system patches/upgrades, and system enhancements. This position will provide direct guidance and leadership to all SCADA team members, customers, supporting departments, as well as external resources.

  • Serve as SME on highly technical system tasks and updates which include providing a plan of action, requirements, identifying any potential roadblocks or issues, and procedural resolutions.

  • Lead project activities which include planning, design, development, installation, testing, and commissioning of SCADA related hardware and software systems in a high availability environment.

  • Lead SCADA system maintenance activities: collaborating with all necessary parties to safely plan, document, and execute all necessary updates, reboots, backups, and tests.

  • Create new or enhance current SOPs to provide a clear and strong model for major system processes to maintain standards and functionality.

  • Proactively research and explore new and emerging technologies to ensure that CPC SCADA will maintain top tier processes and applications.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to novice team members.

  • Define interface requirements between SCADA applications and other real-time, on-line, and batch application processes throughout the company.

  • Work with field technicians, other analysts, and engineers to analyze problems related to instrumentation, RTU’s, PLC’s, computers, human machine interface, communication equipment, and software related to the SCADA system.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education, such as ideally, 16+ years of SCADA experience within the liquid pipeline industry will be considered.

  • Ideally, 10 years of experience in a technical SCADA role with advanced knowledge of commonly used SCADA software systems (e.g., AVEVA, Ignition, ClearSCADA) to include approximately 3 years leading teams (internal or contractor) in the execution of large-scale SCADA system projects.

  • Ability to work extended hours as required; emergency call out during weekends / nighttime as needed.

  • Must be able to identify and perform duties as needed w/o direct leadership or guidance.

  • SCADA functionality in a liquid pipeline environment.

  • A change agent by supporting change and focusing on continuously improving on what, and how work is done.

  • Provide planning and support for regular end-to-end audit and verification of SCADA point functionality, alarms, system performance, and security.

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field of study from an accredited college or university.

  • Ideally, 10 years of experience in a senior SCADA role in a liquid pipeline environment. Advanced knowledge of AVEVA SCADA software.

  • SCADA Certification (e.g., Aveva).

  • Applicable knowledge of MQTT protocol, VM server management, and/or PI Historian.
