VCA Animal Hospitals Radiation Therapist in Albuquerque, New Mexico

VCA Veterinary Care Referral Center is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Radiation Therapist to join our growing Oncology Department (Medical & Radiation) at our well established, multi-specialty veterinary practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our state-of-the-art facility will be completed in late summer, 2024 as part of a fully functioning multi-specialty hospital. A Varian Halcyon® Radiotherapy System allows for the precise and accurate delivery of image-guided radiotherapy modalities including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT). A robust caseload of canine and feline patients undergoing therapy with both definitive and palliative intent for brain, head and neck, lung, liver, neuroendocrine, dermal, subcutaneous, appendicular and axial skeletal, spinal, and urogenital tumors is anticipated, as ours will be the only radiation therapy facility dedicated to animals in our state.

Job Description:

Under direct supervision, the radiation therapist will safely and accurately administer radiation therapy to canine and feline patients as prescribed by the veterinary radiation oncologist.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Radiation Therapist include, but are not limited to:

· Delivering and recording all radiation therapy under the direction of a veterinary radiation oncologist.

· Entering and maintaining patient treatment parameters and data into record and verify software (Aria).

· Maintaining patient appointment and treatment schedule (Aria® and WoofWare®).

· Performing daily linear accelerator warm-up and quality assurance.

· Assisting in acquisition of patient specific quality assurance data.

· Participating in daily chart rounds.

· Performing simple calculations for clinical setups.

· Interpreting computer-based treatment plans.

· Maintaining and promoting radiation safety culture.

· Performing new patient computed tomography (CT) simulation including the creation of non-invasive immobilization devices under direction of radiation oncologist and medical dosimetrist.

· Mentoring veterinary technicians and other personnel.

Minimum qualifications:

· Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy technology program.

· Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in radiation therapy.

· Valid state license (New Mexico) for radiation therapy.

Preferred (in addition to minimum) qualifications:

· Possess the ability to multitask, handle stressful and emotional situations.

· Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team.

· Must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and self-starting with a professional and positive attitude.

· Candidate should have a strong understanding of medical terminology.

· Flexibility with work schedule.

Physical Demands:

· Required to stand, walk, and sit.

· Required to use hands to handle, feel, and manipulate.

· Required to reach with hands and arms

· Required to lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds.

· Requires vision and hearing corrected to normal ranges.
