Job Overview

The Senior Project Manager, Buildings Data Strategy, will have an integral role in supporting the broader planning and implementation of the Clean and Resilient Buildings (CR&B) portfolio by developing key data- and systems-based strategies to (1) deliver market insights and build internal knowledge, and (2) support key aspects of portfolio standardization and streamlining, both of which will inform CRB portfolio planning and strategies over time. In addition, this role will directly advance the broader goal of building a data and systems foundation to support scaling of programs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead development of and help implement a strategy to generate and communicate effective and standardized market insights and internal knowledge-building from NYSERDA and utility project data, other market data sources, and related research and analysis, including working with internal teams to develop and produce insights as well as engaging with external stakeholders to improve usefulness and approach over time.

  • Work with Team Leads to manage the tracking and reporting of CRB program portfolio metrics and results, including identifying ways to improve internal understanding of program performance, efficiency and health, and developing ways to streamline and standardize reporting needs and processes. Develop key materials related to major reporting and budget cycles to support executive decision-making and communications.

  • Provide guidance and support to internal teams with respect to developing and utilizing systems and databases to collect and track project data (e.g., Salesforce, custom platforms and tools), with the goal of standardization and ability to generate key insights to inform strategy and planning for the buildings portfolio.

  • Support coordination of key buildings data sets across internal teams and business units at NYSERDA used for research, modeling and analysis, including building stock and population data sets. Work to inform continuous improvement of data sets.

  • Lead engagement with other States, Program Administrators and federal entities to understand and adapt as helpful national best practices related to buildings data and systems, and delivering market insights, and identify opportunities for coordination and collaboration

  • Represent NYSERDA in public forums and speaking engagements

  • Represent NYSERDA at meetings and events with external stakeholders

  • Contribute to a team culture of openness and collaboration

  • Support Senior Advisor as needed on special assignments or special projects

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned, including supporting timely responsiveness to executive-level requests

  • Ability to demonstrate respect, equity and inclusive behavior and practices of a diverse workforce and community.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree, with at least seven years of experience working in the buildings, planning and /or climate space, and strong data analysis skills, including strong familiarity with Tableau and Excel. Other data and visualization software familiarity/skills a plus.

  • Experience with enterprise or portfolio-level data collection, tracking and reporting across key financial and energy metrics, including experience structuring and setting up databases, data collection and retrieval systems and data visualization systems (e.g., KPI dashboards, progress reports, etc.)

  • Effective and clear written and verbal communication skills, including in meetings, in presentations (e.g., Powerpoint), and for emails and other written products. Proven ability to translate data and technical discussions to a more general audience.

  • Proven experience or ability in developing data structures and systems that effectively generate insights to inform strategy, planning and/or operations

  • Proven experience or ability to think strategically in the context of longer-term planning, and use data and systems-driven approaches to identify key trends and opportunities

  • Proven experience or ability to work collaboratively with other teams to deliver key work products that incorporate multiple inputs and perspectives

  • Interest in and strong ability to stay very organized with time management and planning skills to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with other teams

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Ability and willingness to travel across New York State (Travel requirements 5-10% travel across New York State)

Additional Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree, particularly in policy, public or business administration, architecture, real estate, urban planning, data science, statistics or related field, 5-7 years’ experience in building planning, climate or a related field, and strong data analysis skills.
