The Security Team Leader position at the Albany Nanotech Complex (a 24/7 operation) provides communications, desk and roving security patrol duty functions, and access control in maintenance of safety and security.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete and ensure that security patrol and communication functions are performed in maintenance of site security and safety. The Security Team Leader is responsible for the monitoring and the operation of computerized security and life-safety systems to include alarms pertaining to fire, toxic gas, building management, access control, and the security camera systems.

  • The Security Team Leader ensures the effective notification the fire, police, and/or related public safety agencies. They are to coordinate emergency and business related telephone, radio, and pager communications. Complete and ensure the documentation of incidents, ensures for appropriate visitor services to include entry processing, ensures that facility exterior and interior security patrols are conducted, responds to facility incidents using defined policy and procedure, provides for parking enforcement and special event support.

The Security Team Leader is required to:

  • Maintain a professional and welcoming atmosphere for visitors and the sites community.

  • Employ an effective balance of security technology, personnel, and procedure to maintain safety and

  • security.

  • Document patrols performed, unusual events and circumstances, requests for service and prepare reports per procedure.

  • Report physical security deficiencies.

  • Assist emergency response personnel to and at the incident scene as directed.

  • Conduct security services to include communication and patrol.

  • Monitor for safety related alerts.

  • Possess and apply specific knowledge of safety and security policies and procedures.

  • Assign, distribute, and account for facility equipment.

  • Handle and process sensitive documents, equipment and information with confidentiality.

  • Maintain daily awareness and knowledge of facility operational issues and special events.

  • Work additional hours as may be required of the position.

  • In the absence of a Security Supervisor, assume his/her duties.

  • Become a member of the search committee to assist in identifying applicants for vacant Security Officer positions, evaluate them in the interview process, and make recommendations as applicable.

  • Train and evaluate newly employed Security Officers.

  • Mentor currently employed Security Officers to include identifying gaps in their performances and provide counseling and training for correction.

  • Assist in scheduling personnel for the 365 days 24/7 security operation to include posting and/or communicating the schedule to staff, granting and denying requested days off, and anticipating the needs for additional staff due to events or identified security risks.

  • Attend permit and tenant relations meetings.

  • Conduct safety training for new personnel on site as it relates to safety and security.

  • Have an enhanced familiarity of the access control and visitor management software that allows for assigning access privileges and programing profiles for new employees to the site or editing existing profiles.

  • Delegate/assign operational tasks and inspect for completion.

  • Actively demonstrate appropriate leadership skills; lead by example.

  • Possess effective management skills; to include time management, conflict resolution; provide recommendations for modification of department policies and procedures.

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • The successful candidate is a fully competent Security Team Leader experienced in all aspects of the assignment and capable of independent and group functioning.

  • Been employed as a NYCREATES Security Officer for three years or have other relevant experience in public safety for three years.

  • Capable of attending training specific to leadership, supervision, and courses related to current software and hardware related to security operations.

  • Possess excellent people skills/customer focus and a commitment to teamwork, an ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments, demonstrate initiative and be adaptable to change.

  • Possess knowledge of emergency procedures and operations management, specifically Incident Command System (ICS).

  • Be at least 18 years of age with provisions that the candidate must be able to perform the duties of the position.

  • High School diploma required.

  • Possess and maintain a current New York State security officer certification/license and a valid driver's license.

  • Demonstrate an ability to read, write, and speak English.

  • Must possess color vision and ability to hear.

  • Demonstrate an ability to operate computer technology and software specific to security systems, radio system and typical office equipment.

  • Possess excellent people skills/customer focus and a commitment to teamwork, an ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments, demonstrate initiative and be adaptable to change.

  • Must be capable of walking, running, standing, climbing, reaching, sitting, bending, and pushing/pulling, completing repetitive motions, capable of lifting 50 lbs.

  • Must be capable of working in adverse weather conditions; endure heat, cold, noise exposure.

  • This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background investigation; this position may require annual background investigations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Computer skills including software specific to security and communication systems.

  • Familiarity with cleanroom facility operations and technical applications such as TGMS alarms.

  • Associates degree

  • Three years of supervisory experience
