Indian Health Service Information Technology Specialist (System Administration) in Acomita, New Mexico

Summary This position is located at the Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Indian Health Center (ACLIHC), Division of Administrative Services. The position provides technical assistance and guidance to health center programs relative to the maintenance and modification of the current Indiah Health Service's, Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) and local area network (LAN) systems. Responsibilities Manages and maintains the software applications, hardware configurations, and network communication components of the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS). Serve as a subject matter expert in managing and developing all components of RPMS. Continually customizes and enhances the RPMS software applications based on requests and input from healthcare professionals that utilize and depend on the application to provide high quality care for patients. Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate existing network systems, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), servers, and other data communications networks. Perform network maintenance to ensure networks operate correctly with minimal interruption. Meets with managers, supervisors, employees and others, to solicit cooperation and resolve problems. Provide users with technical support for computer problems. Develop computer information resources, providing for data security and control, strategic computing, and disaster recovery. Stay abreast of advances in technology. Consult with users, management, vendors, and technicians to assess computing needs and system requirements. Interpret organizational goals, policies, and procedures. Evaluate the organization's technology use and needs and recommend improvements, such as hardware and software upgrades. Review and approve all systems charts and programs prior to their implementation. Prepare and review operational reports or project progress reports. Manage backup, security and user help systems. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Managing, operating and monitoring use of communication networks and interfaces to the Local Area Network (LAN)/Wide Area Network (WAN) systems including Windows and UNIX based servers; resolving complex system issues from unique hardware and software configuration; providing guidance on computer languages, database management procedures, telecommunications and data protocols; planning and conducting research to determine optimal approaches for the application of information technology; and maintaining application support for the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) programs within a patient care environment. In addition to the Minimum Qualifications, all applicant must meet the following Selective Placement Factor below: Experience in managing and developing Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) and Electronic Health Records computer systems standards, programming techniques and equipment operation in order to develop and maintain programs in a patient care environment. NOTE: To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been at the GS-11 grade level or higher, or an equivalent level of responsibility. Examples of the specialized experience and selective placement factor experience must be clearly defined within your resume to receive consideration. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.
