Amazon Environmental Permitting Manager, DCC Communities, DCC Communities in Sydney, Australia

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

We are looking for a dynamic and skilled manager to join our existing APAC environmental due diligence and environmental permitting team. Based in Sydney, this role will involve leading on multiple regions and sites in-development. Our scale of growth and success means that this is a fast-paced role and critical to AWS's ongoing success!

Key job responsibilities

Environmental due diligence (contaminated site management, remediation, initial environmental risk analysis, site screening, site approvals);

Environmental permitting (air permits, EIAs, natural and cultural heritage assessments);

Regulatory and agency engagement;

Regulatory analysis and assessment (environmental legislation and policy);

Collaborate with key AWS teams (Real Estate, Risk & Resiliency, Design Engineering, Legal).

Review due diligence reports and develop mitigation measures to address site-development risks.

Manage and oversee compliance with environmental regulations and Amazon policy.

Prepare environmental permits for time-critical submission to governmental agencies.

Function as a leader regarding regulatory agency interactions, permit, and planning approval processes.

Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards.

Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.

A day in the life

A typical day involves managing many site-development projects all at various stages of development. Some will be at the due diligence stage so work would involve reviewing due diligence reports and identifying risks and mitigations needed for site acquisition.

Other projects will be in design and permitting and work for this involves managing environmental studies (such as air and noise modelling, biodiversity studies) and working with our consultants to prepare environmental permit applications to regulatory-approval.

We work very closely with partner teams such as Real Estate, Risk/Due Diligence, Design Engineering and Legal. The role is very dynamic and managing multiple projects with minimal manager oversight is a key skill.

About the team

You will sit in the APAC Infrastructure-Development (InfraDev) team within the global Environmental organization of AWS. We are responsible for environmental due diligence, permitting and approvals for all new AWS sites in Asia-Pacific. We are a small, global team but highly-effective. We manage multiples of projects in APAC and are always innovating in how we complete our work. Its a great role in a dynamic team that is at the forefront of AWS.
